raising the profile

Well, it’s rather late and I meant to post earlier – but then I got all caught up in watching Doctor Who (the new series; I’m on season 2 and rather starting to like David Tennant) and here I am.

I seem to have gotten back some of my knitting mojo of late – I think I was just tired of everything I was knitting, but really needed to do it anyway! I’ve cast on for 2 new projects and they’re both going nice and quick. Photos of them soon.

What I really came by to tell you about are some (rather random) print happenings for me!

First up, I’ve got a pattern in Shannon Okey’s new book, alt fiber – it’s a long jacket in linen stitch, knit with hemp. Yeah, that took awhile. I don’t have any photos at the moment but hopefully Shannon will be able to send some over!

Next up, totally unbeknownst to me until I read the magazine, I got shout outs in the article on knitting in Canada! From the most famous knitter. Pays to know people! (Thanks dude. I totally owe you homemade peanut butter cups.)

ETA: Oops, I don’t know how I didn’t say the magazine! It’s the fall 2008 Vogue Knitting!

14.365 - Vogue!

Second mention in the same article, about Canadian bloggers…hey! I know those other names! (And one in particular who isn’t Canadian – I wonder where they got that from?!)

more Vogue mention

I’m so happy to be making a bit of an impact, and so glad that there’s such a great community of knitters. I don’t know where I’d be without you!

Congrats! I can’t wait to get the book and look at your new pattern :)

I hope your ankle is feeling better. Quick question: what magazine is the Yarn Harlot article in?

I’m going to have to pick up a copy of that!

Also, I think this means we are now legally bound to offer Ysolda Canadian citizenship.

    Kudos Laura!

There’s something really neat about seeing your name in print! Congrats.

David Tennant, be still my heart! I just love him — it took me a while to warm up to him, though.

After growing up in Minnesota I already feel like an honorary Canadian — especially since my accent is often taken to be Canadian. I hope Ysolda feels as honored as I do.

Congrats on the mention! When I read the article, one of the first things I thought was “Ysolda’s Canadian…? That can’t be right…” Someone must have been confused by her visiting you!

    That is so awesome! Congrats!!

Congrats on getting your pattern published and being famous!

Fun eh? And Ms. Up and Coming, it’s totally deserved for you!

That’s kind of funny they didn’t contact you for that story… it seems like you (and a few of the other up-and-comers) would be fairly easy to get a hold of, what with the blogs and all. And I thought the same thing as Sari, above, about the whole Ysolda thing, but then it occurred to me that reading about her visit here was why I had any idea where she was from at all. So, still a mystery!

Anyways, congrats on the mention! You do seem to be getting quite famous now!

I’d be totally honoured to be Canadian – as long as I don’t have to give up my Scottish citizenship! Thanks for sharing the article, it’s still not out here yet :(

    Yay love in print!

Welcome to the Whoniverse. Have you seen “Blink” yet? Best episode ever.

I too am curious – what magazine is it?

I noticed your mention in the new VK, but I haven’t had time to read the entire article yet. Too busy with all of the Olympics coverage to do anything as mundane as read a magazine article.

I saw the mention in VK just this morning. How awesome for you — and well-deserved! As a former magazine editor, I’d say it’s less strange that they didn’t contact you to say you were mentioned and far more strange that the issue’s been out as long as it has, you hadn’t seen it yourself, AND nobody who knows you mentioned it sooner!

I just read that article the other day myself. I was pleasantly surprised to see your name and oh so proud! I mean, having another knitter from my home and native spelled out in VK? NICE!

Congratulations! I had skimmed over the article and had to go back to read it more carefully!

Congratulations! It is nice to be noticed.

Wow, great news! How fun to have your name, and pattern, in print!

Hi Laura, I picked up AltFiber today and I love your pattern! I’m going to put that one in my queue. It’s a really cool book all around.

have been a big DT fan since his first Doctor Who series a couple of years ago. received a DT calendar for my birthday from one of my best mates so i can drool over him in the privacy of my own home. think it was hearing his scottish accent that sucked me in…
