  • vogue knitting cabled cardigan errata

I’ve been working on the Cabled Cardigan (#19) from Vogue’s fall 2006 issue, and while it’s going to be a great sweater there’ve been a few problems with the pattern. Somewhat minor ones, but still – irritating.

I’m making the smallest size, and for the sleeve it says to increase every 10th row 72 times. Obviously that’s a mistake! It should read inc every 10th row 6 times. The other sizes look fine.

The other problem I’ve had is with the right front. Up top is the left front, before I ripped it down to the ribbing (I’d made a mistake in the cables *and* forgot to start the neck shaping). It’s now done – quick knits rock! I started the right front yesterday during “heroes” (love that show). The chart for the right front has an error in row 13; the 5-st RC should be a 5-st LC to make it symmetrical to the left side.

I sent that first sleeve correction to Vogue when I encountered it (more than a few weeks ago) and they haven’t updated the errata. There’s also more corrections with the collar, here.

I could forgive a typo or two. But so many? Gah!

How about a happy spinning shot?

I’ve been working on new skeins and will have them up in the shop soon, probably tonight.

  • file under: fast and easy

These days I’m all about the mindless knit most of the time (while reading), with more complex stuff thrown into the TV time (where I can actually look at a pattern). Easy-peasy: log cabin-ing!

My handspun log cabin is growing and dude, I love it. I’ve already added another layer+ since I took this photo. And it’s actually using up balls of handspun! I’m doing 10 ridges in each section, but if I run out of a colour I just add a couple ridges the next time I’m on that side to make up for it. I want this one pretty big, and I’m already starting to think that I might have to actually spin yarn for it. I’m already planning another out of pakucho cotton, maybe double stranded on huge needles for even more fast-ness.

In other fastest-ever news, I’m progressing so fast on the handspun top-down I showed yesterday that the next post about it will likely be an FO! I’m done the body and neck edging (just some single crochet), a sleeve, and am working on the other sleeve. Here’s hoping I divided that yarn equally, and the second sleeve will be the same length as the first one. Hooray for using up stash!

  • saving up

I have a bunch of nice bright sunlight photos of projects to share, but rather than one huge post I’m going to try to save ’em up so I’ll have something quick to post more often (aiming for every day). First up, a new project – like I needed a new one! my Denise cords are all full!

I’m in love with this project. It’s a top-down raglan (obviously), done with two strands of handspun held together. One strand is fingering weight merino/silk 2 ply, dyed by Fleece Artist, while the other is Louet-dyed merino/silk 2 ply which is maybe worsted weight. I’m using 8 mm needles with the two together and am getting about 13 sts/10 cm. A quick knit, plus I just love the colours!

The Louet stuff is the same colour throughout while the Fleece Artist changes colour subtly. Love. It.

My only concern is running out of yarn! I’m going to do shaping in the waist and maybe elbow length sleeves. If I really really want it longer, I can always get another bag of the Louet stuff, but it’s going to be pretty different from the olf stuff when I spin it up, I think. So I’m aiming to just go with what I have for now – it might go farther than I think!
