Indecision about projects – what do I knit next? What do I do with the yarn I want to knit?

Silky wool/tweed sweater in yet another incarnation – I didn’t rip out the hem (that was a lot of work!) but I took out the red stripe and am planning on just doing a grey body and red sleeves. Hopefully I’ll have enough of the grey! It’s going pretty quickly now though, and is a nice plain knit that I’m rather enjoying. Until I have to decide about the shaping, of course.

I also swatched some of the Rowanspun 4ply I bought from elann awhile back. This is double stranded on 4.5 mm.

I’m getting a touch less than 20 stitches per 10 cm, and I’ve decided to do a simple jacket, based on the Indian Summer Jacket from Interweave (scroll down a bit). No bells and whistles, just plain. With hook and eye tape for the closure, which I think will be pretty cool.

I picked up the tape today at Fabricland, as well a new rotary cutting mat and a bunch of buttons, all at 40% off. Buttons for dreamcatcher? Check! Sewed them on? Not so much. But soon.

  • button, button

So I hit up Courage My Love, THE wicked best place to get buttons, and I bought buttons. Alas, not checking button hole size before buying buttons results in too-big buttons. So I’ll have to get some new ones, but I don’t really forsee getting back down there for awhile (and Friday I’m working and probably won’t be able to get away during their working hours). I’ll check Fabricland tomorrow (which is near me) and maybe the store on the corner near lettuce on Friday.

In the meanwhile, here’s a blocking shot. I’ve tried it on and the fit is perfect! And the sleeves caps fit too, hooray.

New project: Vintage Pink Cardigan, from an old Interweave. Mine’s blue, although not quite as eye-searing as in the photo (sunlight, y’know). Rowan wool cotton, bought from Jannette on eBay. Lovely stuff. First sleeve is now done.

    New yarn: pink with sparklies!

I’m trying to blog really fast. More tomorrow!

  • eighteen celsius and sunny

    Ahhh. I love spring.

Since my camera’s charging at the moment, no photos today – I guess you’ll just have to use your imagination! Actually, wait, maybe I *do* have a photo….oh, here it is.

New project #1 – a bottom-up raglan, striped, in Lavold Silky Wool and Tweed. I love the fabric, but meh. Not very exciting. Maybe…three quarter sleeves, v-neck. Something like that.

Dreamcatcher is blocking! It was a bit of a mess before blocking (all curly and small) but now it looks awesome. A button search is lined up for tomorrow. Plus, after the sleeve cap Disaster that was Cable/Rib, it’s reassuring to know that I can actually set in a sleeve and have it work. Which is good, since a couple of the projects I’m planning have set in sleeves.

What else…I’ve been slacking off school (exams in two weeks? pshaw, that’s ages from now), and dyeing up a storm for myself and for the spindle class I’m teaching this Friday and next at lettuce knit – in town and wanna try your hand at making yarn? There are a couple spaces left, just give us a ring!

Denny gave me a handfull of sparkly stuff to spin, and although you probably have noticed I’m not really the bling type, I can’t wait to ply it into some pink merino I’m working on right now.

Let’s hope tomorrow’s button jaunt is successful, so I can show you all a new and very cool sweater!
