  • this and that

Thanks for all the compliments on sapphire guys! I really appreciate it.

Always eyes forward, I’ve finished knitting the ribbed corset. Here it is blocking, very stretched.

It’s more promising that it’ll fit now, but still a bit iffy. The stomach area is fine, but the bust could be…er…flashy? At any rate, I’m going to put the buttons on and then see. I haven’t even woven in the ends yet.

I hate those little metal things that hold the buttons onto the card. I’ve been using a staple remover, but it doesn’t work all that great – one of those sharp corners (on the metal thingy) poked me under the nail! After that, I had to go hunting for a pair of pliers. Luckily I found them, and now all buttons are liberated.

I finally got to a bit of spinning, and I navajo plied for the first time on some random singles that had been sitting on the bobbin for awhile. It’s VERY overtwisted, but that’s ok. It was just an experiment – it’s very cool. Will definitely be doing it more.

In stash enchancement, Lorna’s Laces Shepherd Sock in “Watercolor”. I think I’ll do the “go with the flow” socks with it.

One waving lace sock down, one to go. I think the second one will go faster.

I think I’ll start a new, plain sock with some of that knitpicks yarn – something to knit while reading!

  • spinnin

    Just spinning here today, folks.

I spun up the first two lots of my hand-dyed corriedale.

The colours aren’t quite true – both of the dyed skeins are more brown in real life. How *do* people get colour-accurate pictures? I suppose a better camera would help; alas, I’d rather spend the money on fibre. The rust yarn is about 150 yards, worsted-ish weight, and the green one is a little thinner and about 196 yards (both are 4 oz and 2-ply). I’m quite happy with the colours after being spun up, actually.

And check out these cool tags; my cousin gave me them at Christmas. Seems like a waste to just use them for myself, so I’m going to pick up some plainer tags just to label the yardage and such.

I also spun up that sherbet-coloured merino, but I couldn’t get a good picture tonight – I’ll put one up tomorrow. In the meanwhile, I’ve dyed some more of the merino. This stuff is seriously soft; I think I need to buy some more (plus it’s a good deal)!

This one is primary colours with a bit of the in-between colours (just a touch of green and purple). I love that it actually turned out bright!

This one is more red in real life; it’s dark pinks, reds, and purples. I quite like it, even if it does look kind of like a bruise.

That’s it for now! Next question is, of course – what do I do with all this handspun?

  • the post that grew

I thought I didn’t have much to blog about, but then I started taking pictures!

I started a pair of Broadripples, using the 72-stitch version. I’m using my Lorna’s Laces Shepherd Sock in Bittersweet and they are SO beautiful. I was worried it was going to be too big, so I did the socks on 2.0 mm needles – it just fits. I only started on Saturday but the leg went soooo quickly. The foot, not so much, but I still love it.

I started spinning up that rust roving, and this is what I came up with – it looks ok in the picture, and in real life as well, but that’s because I was at the section that was dyed a nice red. The majority of the yarn is orange, which I’m not huge on. Still waiting to pass judgement, though.

I also wound off the white corriedale singles I’ve been working on, and it’s a pretty honkin’ skein of 275 yards! I’m going to dye this up, sometime.

A finished colourway in merino! This stuff is soooooo soft, and I didn’t eff up the colour! It came out well and I’m happy. I’ve got another merino lot drying, and two soaking to be dyed today. I think one of them shall be a try at red, with some black…should be interesting.

Also, this pile just needs to be blocked, and there’ll be a finished object!

    Keep cool!
