enormous shawl of tweedyness

flower petal shawl

Finally off the needles! It was actually a pretty quick knit. Now I just need to give it a good wash and block, weave in the ends and all that. Pattern is the Flower Petal Shawl from elann, and the yarn is Classic Elite Skye Tweed (also purchased from elann, now that I think about it).

So, the list is coming along. Unfortunately I think I may have overdone it the last couple days, or something – my left wrist is complaining a bit today. So I’ve put the knitting down, and should actually, you know, get some other work done. I’m also back on the spinning wheel, so I can go do that for my procrastination tool.

For those that were wondering, one skein of Ultramerino 6 is plenty for a pair of socks, women’s M (size 8-ish) with a shortish cuff – about 6 inches. You could also go toe up and get the most out of the skein.

ultramerino love

It’s snowing fantastically today, moreso because I’m nice and cozy in my nice warm home! I’m finally getting back to the home dyepot, after months of inactivity (and just keeping the dyeing to the store’s studio). I don’t have the lentils I need at the moment to make a big pot of soup, so instead i”m cooking wool.

Perfect knitting for right now? Socks.

socks in Ultramerino

Thicker, cozy socks out of Ultramerino 6 on 3.25 mm needles. Dude, those are some fast socks. Top-down, 48 sts, eye of partridge heel flap, 3×1 rib. Comfort knitting.

What are you doing for cozy comfort lately?

sleeve island

I’m marooned, but only one of them is actually for a present. So…yes, I should focus on that one.

Exhibit A: Drops jacket sleeve

drops jacket sleeve

This is the first sleeve, which went very satisfyingly quick – I knit it up to the cap at Aleta’s on Saturday. My question is this – what kind of set in sleeve is only 9 cm deep? A lot of people have made this, and not commented on this issue, so I guess it works out. More of a modified drop than a set-in sleeve, I suppose.

Exhibit B: Treeline Stripe Cardigan sleeve

Finally back to working on this one – I’d really love to wear it for various holiday functions. Still need to knit the rest of this sleeve, the yoke, and buttonbands…hmmm.

Exhibit C: Gifty handspun sleeve

handspun romney sleeve

Again with the handspun Romney. This is the first sleeve, which also went pretty fast, so I’m up to the cap. Again, kind of a wonky pattern (all will be revealed once it’s finished) – the sleeve increases up to 86 stitches, which is too wide in my opinion. So I stopped at 70 sts. Obviously, another sleeve cap to re-write. Yay.

On an unrelated note, I just saw the Golden Compass on Sunday, and now I really want to make Lyra’s pixie hat and the multicoloured Gyptian coat! Of course, I’d have to also acquire quite a bit of impish charm to wear them – that might be harder to come by.

P.S. Yep, the Cashlana label was wrong – it’s 90% merino, 10% cashmere. Sad. But, still just as soft.
