Finally, my internet’s working. Must type post quickly in the event it decides to quit…

Gahhh. I just went to Elann and they’ve got more Jo Sharp Tweed!! And the DK weight, too! Oh well. I suppose I don’t ACTUALLY feel like buying more yarn – I’m rather overwhelmed with my stash and lineup of projects as it is. I really really want some Phildar mags though – their projects look so awesome. But again with the not buying things. Maybe in January.

I really want to make Cozy. I know I’ve mentioned it before, but I was really thinking in more detail about it tonight. I don’t want to buy yarn, so what do I have that would work? Cotton-ease, but then it would be really BRIGHT red (can I overdye cotton/acrylic? just a little?). I’ve also got black Elann Sonata cotton, but that’s in a sweater quantity that I don’t really want to dip into. I’ve also got the Fleece Artist Silken – Amy (Singer) posted on the Knitty board that she was making cozy in the SIlken. There’s only 500 m of the Silken though, and the pattern calls for over 640 m. I think I have enough of a deep rose colour Sonata cotton for it, maybe.

Oh well. It’s not like I’d have time to do it anytime soon anyway.

Progress reports (pictures to come tomorrow, perhaps). My grandfather’s scarf is almost done, thank goodness. I’m on the last ball of yarn. I’ve been getting 6-7 garter ridges per ball, so I’m going to do 4 garter ridges and then bind off. I’m paranoid about having enough yarn to bind off with, so better too much than not enough. Should be done soon! Hurrah!

I’ve also resurrected mini-charlotte, and between lecture and snb, managed to get through about a repeat and a half. I’m now on the second skein of yarn. Again with the binding off issue – I’ll just sort of have to play it by ear on this one.

And in between all of this, I managed to work about an inch and a half of the body of my cabled ribby, and just a few rows on my LoTech.

I’m sleepy. And yet, I must finish writing this paper. I ended up just getting a Coke in the subway, when I think I could’ve used a Bawls. But I didn’t want to get off the subway just to go to Shoppers. I’ve just got to write a discussion/conclusion, and EDIT THE HELL OUT OF IT – it’s 4 pages double spaced max, and I’ve got almost three pages single spaced. booo, hiss.

  • i’m cold. (and various knitting musings)

My cosy big wool cardie is currently keeping me warm. :)

So I’ve been thinking about projects (what else is new, ha). I really want to make a Cycling Aran, and the wool I’m getting from Elann would work, but….I’ve already got plans for that yarn. Or maybe I can incorporate the cables into the pullover I’m planning…hm.

Also, I was thinking of things to do with some of that Cotton-Ease that I got yesterday. I still really want to make Lara, but black cotton-ease is just so boring, at least for this sweater. So, what if I held the yarn together with something laceweight and fuzzy? Like kidsilk haze? Now that would be nice (would make it non-machine wash, but oh well). Unfortunately I don’t think I could afford to actually use 1100 yards of KSH for it. And there’s the fact that I don’t reallllly want to spend the money on the d.b. book because I only want that pattern. Anyone up for a trade or something? Thinking, thinking.

Oh, I finished the black hat for my cousin. It’s cute, but I don’t look good in hats. I hope it fits him. Pictures when I can.

Must. Force. Self. To. Do. Work.

  • balance

So today on my way home from school, I stopped off at Lewiscraft with the intention of buying a crochet hook to crochet my dad’s christmas present scarf (just for a change). I ended up buying…nothing. I then went to Coles, and they had the new Interweave (we sold out at the store before I had even gotten mine!) but I didn’t buy it. I even went to Shoppers to get some Coke and Bawls, and I didn’t get anything. Zip. Zilch. Nada.

I just wasn’t in the mood to buy anything. So maybe the universe is trying to balance itself out from that spending spree I had the last couple weeks.

I am going to have a credit card bill this cycle, though, because look what came today:

The Cotton-Ease I ordered from discountyarnsale.com the first week of October. Shipping was pretty steep ($18 USD) but I didn’t have to pay any taxes or duty or anything, it just showed up. So yeah…even more yarn without concrete plans. I don’t even have anywhere to put it! Jane: I’ll email you. If you don’t hear from me tonight/tomorrow, you email me!

Here’s the hat I started for my cousin, in black Mission Falls cotton.

I’m making it up as I go along, but I may have to rip back the crown – I have a sneaking suspicion that I’m not decreasing fast enough. We’ll see.

EDIT (9:45pm): I finished the hat, but yup, it’s been ripped back to before the decreases. It’s too friggin’ shallow! I’ll add another 1.5-2 inches before starting the decreases again.

And just for kicks, here’s attempt #1 of my grandfather’s sideways garter scarf.

That’s a 100 inch circular, people. A 52″ Denise cord plus another 40″ one (plus the needle tips). And it still wasn’t completely stretched out. Hi-larious. I haven’t had that much time to work on it, but I’ll be knitting it in lectures tomorrow so I should be able to get a few rows done.

Oh, and one more little thing – I was trying really hard to come up with a yarn to use to knit my mother a capelet for Christmas (I gave her the handwarmers for her birthday). Then I realized – I can just use that Blue Heron cotton that I’ve got. I’ll use it doubled. Must get on that…

Monday only? At the end of every weekend I feel as though I haven’t had one.
