  • the 8-day sweater, or: see laura procrastinate

Surprise! To the people I don’t see in real life, anyway. I made a sweater, because I am cold and need a nice wooly pulli. (Don’t mind my pj pants – it’s gross outside so I stayed home! Plus, the studying…)

Man, it is friggin’ HARD to take good pictures of yourself. Anyway!

    Specs
Yarn: Elann Peruvian Wool bag sale, 17 (!) balls
    Needles: Denise, US 8
Pattern: basic bottom-up seamless raglan, 3×2 ribbing at the bottom
    Started: November 29, 2004
    Finished: December 7, 2004

It would have been done earlier, but I kept having to rip and redo the neckline – I did a bit of short-row shaping for it, and I wanted a ribbed collar, but the first couple times the bindoff was too tight, and then it just looked weird. So, rollneck it is. It’s thick and warm, and a wee bit itchy, but not intolerably so; a bath in Eucalan should take care of some of that. But since I want to wear this sweater tomorrow, I’m just going to steam block for now and wear a turtleneck underneath. It’s also rather heavy, but doesn’t feel that bad once it’s on. Also, I spliced in the ends as I went, so I only had a few ends to weave in! Hurrah!

And it fits! That’s what I was going for, baby. I hope to get quite a bit of wear out of this sweater.

  • snow and penguins

This was the view from my bedroom window this morning.

So, the slooooow knitting progress over the last little bit.

A wee bit o’ progress on the cotton capelet. Doubled laceweight yarn and 3.75 mm needles, sheesh. But it’s coming along with me to lectures tomorrow so hopefully I’ll be able to get at least an inch or two done there.

My dad’s scarf – I figure I’m about halfway there.

But look! I finished something for a present! It’s for my sister, and it’s Pasha! Cotton-ease and Lamb’s Pride worsted for the yellow bits. Quick and fun, although sewing the wings on was kind of a bitch. Isn’t it cuuuuuute? (Sorry about the darkness of the picture – the perils of indoor nighttime photography.)

I’ve had such a hard time concentrating on studying today. It was bad, I really needed to get some stuff done…oh well. There’s always tomorrow. Note to self: buy cheetos, bawls, and coke on the way home. They really do seem to do the trick. Also, here is proof that knitting is the most important thing on my mind.

That should say “bind to“, not “bind off”! Harharhar.

One more shot of the pretty snow before it gets washed away tomorrow.

    Stay warm!

  • new knitty!!

    YAY!!

    Thoughts:
Cathode: I love, love, love Stefanie’s designs. She rocks. I’d do long sleeves.
Belle Epoque: very pretty, but not for me. Looks kind of maternity-like (as many things with empire waists do).
Tempting: classic…on a skinny person with a flat stomach. Not me. I really like the ribbon though.
Mariah: AMAZING. I MUST MAKE THIS!
    Wavy: awesomeness!
    Cross-country: astonishingly intricate.
Very tall socks: LOVE these! I don’t know if I’d do them in worsted weight, though – talk about adding pounds to the legs. But I’d definitely adapt ’em for finer gauge.
Muffy: muahahaha! An excuse to buy that Fleece Artist roving!
Pasha: screw the $6 bobbi bear pattern, everyone’s getting a penguin!
Wine Cozy: a great idea! Party gifts!
Kureyon Kozy: quick, do I know tea drinkers??

When I started clicking through the patterns (I always go in order the first time through), I wasn’t all THAT impressed. But once I’d seen all the patterns, I realized how amazing this issue is!

Dammit. Now I’ve got even more things to knit!
