Whew. I just wrote a test that’s been hanging over my head since before Christmas! Now I feel like I have time to knit and spin and all those good things…before I need to seriously get back into new term work. D’oh.

On the weekend though, while I was studying, I also managed to dye up a bunch of roving:

The colours are a bit washed out here, but you get the idea – I did two pounds and a quarter in 4 oz lots. I’m trying to make a dent in my massive merino stash so I can order more wool sometime ;) I want to do some bigger dyelots as well, but not until I actually have a project (and therefore amount of wool needed) in mind. These are just for something different from all the skinny white stuff I’ve been spinning! No picture at the moment, but I’m spinning up skinny (laceweight to fingering) merino to do a three-ply for a sweater-type project. 1.5 bobbins into the first batch, and it’s taken me awhile because I don’t have much time fore spinning! I should make a point of doing it more.

Anyway, knitting – I’ve been working on Nordic Memories. I’m done both sleeves, am up to the armhole shaping of the back, and am done the ribbing of the front (not pictured, as I just knit that today).

Thank you all for your lovely comments on my shawl!

  • oh, the softness

I just finished binding off bpt!

As you can see, it’s curling quite a bit at the bottom – I’ll block, then see what happens. It also doesn’t have a collar treatment yet – I think I might actually just leave it, or possibly pick up and do an icord bindoff around the collar. We’ll see.

And, I got some new bobbins for my wheel, so now I can play, play!

  • Last night was the lettuce knit anniversary party/cookie exchange, as I’m sure you’ve seen on some other blogs! I took my camera but didn’t take any photos, but you can see some great ones on Stephanie’s, Maria’s, and Mel’s blogs.

Here’s a photo of the little guy at the party, with one of my (pre-)felted clogs on his head! Cuuuuute. Photo by Mel.

I managed to finish the second one last night, so here they are, hilariously big next to my size 8 feet. They just need felting, and that’s another one done!

I’ve also finished another pair of socks, this time out of Artyarns Supermerino, on 3.5 mm needles:

Unfortunately this photo doesn’t do the yarn justice – it’s just a gorgeous apple green with the darker flecks. Darn sun, being all elusive and such!

Tonight I finally plied some yarn that’s been on the bobbins for awhile – I’d bought a baggie of silk hankies awhile back and spun them up in..I think it was November, on the thinner side. It hardly looked like any, but because it was thinner, the yardage was pretty good! I plied it with some merino that I finished spinning last week or so.

You can see the silk shiney bits better in this photo, I think:

It’s really, really soft and I just love it! I think I’m going to knit a Flower Basket Shawl with it – I just need to decide whether I want to dye the yarn (probably a burgundy) or not. Actually, upon typing that, I think I will dye it. I’m not much of a white-wearing person.

Any tips on mixing up a nice burgundy dye? I’m using Ashford acid dyes (I’ve got some Cushings left too, in turkey red, scarlet, black, and blue).
