  • and then there were two

    I just experienced a two-day server outage, or I would’ve posted sooner!

    olive boy-socks

Feels good to get some things off the needles, I must say. These are just basic socks, 68 sts on Knitpicks US 0 (magic loop) and the yarn is Lorna’s Laces in “Cedar”. I still have another skein (I had three for some reason) so I can’t quite decide if I want to return it or make a matching pair of socks for me. These are for the boyfriend. Or alternatively, I suppose I could just make a second pair in the same colour for him.

These sock blockers really work nicely for displaying the socks! I got mine at the Knitter’s Frolic this spring from PickUpSticks, but hadn’t used them before the other day.

I’ve been adding projects to Ravelry, slowly, but it’s taking a long time! I’m done my 2007 and 2006 projects (for the most part, I think, there might be a few missing in there somewhere) and now I’m onto the 2004-2005 photoset, which contains a whopping 99 photos! Don’t worry if you haven’t gotten your invite yet – it’s seriously better, this growing slowly. It would just implode if everyone joined at once! I’ve been on since May, when Jess emailed and asked if I would check out this site she was working on. It was a neat idea then, and now it’s grown into a tremendous effort. It’s very cool.

Currently knitting Titbits and secret presents, which are almost done. I’m itching to start new projects, but still trying to be good and finish stuff!

    lots o' garter stitch

Currently working on heaps o’ garter stitch, out of handspun – a very nice experience indeed.

Between lots of work hours, writing patterns and design stuff, the garden, and the whole trying to have some semblance of a social life, it’s been busy times around here the last few weeks.

I’m feeling a rather intense desire to cast on for new things, but even more than that, trying to finish the things I’ve got going! The pile of projects is heaped so high that it’s been interesting trying to dig myself out. I did finally finish a big project, but I can’t show you now – soon, soon.

And I did finish a sock.

    olive sock

Olive Lorna’s Laces shepherd sock, basic sock pattern, for the boy. But that just means that I have another sock yet to go! This one took me a long time, too.

So, the plan is to try to stick to one project at a time and power through some FOs in the next little while. A bunch are presents, which of course sucks for blogging, but it’ll feel nice to actually finish something within a reasonable amount of time.

Thanks for all the birthday wishes! I did have a nice day, saw Hairspray (fun) and had some partying down at knit night, but dinner was a bit of a bust – we got there after the movie, ordered, and then I started feeling quite sick and we had to leave. Took two of the dishes to go (they’d been prepared already) and ended up eating them later, at snb. So I’ll have to try going again sometime, after I’ve talked to my naturopath about the whole thing (it’s happened more than once and is pretty darn disruptive).

Anyway, I got me some fabulous pressies. From megan, a hand-sewn quilted apron out of very pretty Amy Butler fabric:

And from Denny, a sweet little needle book and crochet hook case for my new yarn-manipulating craft.

Both are vintage fabrics and so pretty!

Tomorrow – the birthday yarn and plans for it!

    farmhouse socks

Finally, an FO around here – it’s been ages! It’s not like I’m not knitting, I’m just not really getting anywhere these days, it seems…

Anyhoo. These are my first pair of Socks that Rock, despite my ownership of several (cough) skeins. Colourway Farmhouse, 64 stitches on Knitpicks US 0 circs, magic loop. Short row heel, wedge toe. Plain ol’ sock.

It was good company on the vacation, nice plain round and round. Didn’t get done until just last week, but whatever. I tried to make the socks long, long enough that I would’ve had to add calf shaping if I’d made them any longer, but I still have tons of yarn left over! Probably 20 grams or more (my scale is currently living at the store).

    farmhouse socks

And, they even match! It’s been my experience when knitting a pair of socks from a hand-dyed, 100 g skein, that the two socks never really come out the same. One will stripe up all nice, the other will do weird pooling or something, despite the same gauge, knitter, and yarn. This skeins seems to have been very well behaved however, and the socks really do match – as much as hand-dyed sock yarn-socks can.

Done a new pair of socks just in time for a heat wave. Yipee!
