  • long-term FOs!

Finally got a chance to photograph some things.

First up – the Monk’s Travel Satchel!

Even though I knit the side pockets and the icord closures…I ran out of steam before sewing them on. I have a hunch that it’s going to remain this way.

    Monk’s Travel Satchel
    Pattern: from Interweave Knits online
Yarn: Naturelle 8/8, denim and oxfored grey, from Elann
    Needles: Denise US 5
    Started: March 16, 2005
    Finished: July 2, 2005

Yikes, that one took a while. But I was only knitting it in lectures really, so the fact that it got done at all is a feat!

Next up is “no stripes go round”.

It’s pretty comfy, I like the stretchy fabric, and I looove the sleeves. But because it’s not shaped, it’s rather boxy and kind of odd looking, especially in the back (it bags a little). Oh well. This was another mindless lecture knit.

    No Stripes Go Round
Pattern: “Stripes Go Round” from Interweave Knits, Summer 2004 (knit 32″ size at about 6.5 sts/inch)
Yarn: Elann Esprit in “Ruby”, 6 balls
Needles: Garnstudio bamboo circ, 3.5 mm
    Started: May 16, 2005
    Finished: July 2, 2005

Whew! Now I can cross some of those long-running projects off the list and concentrate on some new(er) ones!

  • clap off

Currently at school, killing time – I got out of a three-hour lecture after only one hour! And it was the second last lecture of the course, to boot! I’ve started a new project, a skirt for my little sister, but I only did the waistband and don’t have the right needles for the body of the skirt, so I can’t work on that anymore.

Now that the secret gift’s been given, I can reveal it – not that it was allll that exciting:

A Clapotis! It’s knit with 3 skeins of Cotton Fleece in “Provincal Rose” and it’s very nice. I want one now – a full size one (the one I have is DK weight and skinnier) but I don’t want to knit it. I think I’m done with that pattern, at least for awhile.

It’s for a friend who’s leaving for France this week!

Now, I’m a bit sleepy because I had a pint this afternoon (and still have a lecture to attend this evening) so maybe I’ll take a break from the computer.

Later (or tomorrow): new yarn! I didn’t break my yarn diet; it was purchased before the start of the diet and only just showed up.

  • motorin’

Progress on the grey sock…less than 3″ till the toe! It goes quickly when I work on it (story of my knitting life…).

In spinning, I did up some shiny merino/silk. I’m hoping that when this is plied with another equal bobbin, it’ll fill the third bobbin and won’t go over. How do people spin up full bobbins of singles to be plied? Doesn’t that mean your plied skeins need to be all broken up? Or does everyone have a jumbo plying bobbin?

And…..all the pieces of the Monk’s Satchel are done!

    See anything weird?

By the knot at the side of the strap/gusset?

Yeah, I screwed up the seed stitch. When I resized the photo, I actually said out loud “oh you are fucking kidding me”. But, it shall be on the bottom of the bag so I don’t really care. And if it bugs me enough, I’ll just duplicate stitch on the purl bumps.

Just a couple of pieces of i-cord and the pieces meet my washing machine, and then a crochet hook.
