  • an ounce of the good stuff

Argh! I keep wanting to blog, but the time, she flies!

Today I went to the Yarn Store (the Big One in town) to return some yarn, buy some yarn, and just shop. As usual, I became a bit overwhelmed by it all. Usually I’ll find some nice stuff, but I’ll hem and haw and put it back. I find it so uninspiring in there…anyway, onto the goods. I managed to walk out with the yarn I needed (a skein of Butterfly cotton) and a teeny bit of silk.

And bonus, I only paid $9 after returning some yarn! The Butterfly cotton was for a you-know-what…

Obviously it’s not 100% accurate, but whatever.

I also stopped by Zellers on the way home and picked up some cotton for my mom’s bolero, TLC Cotton Plus. By the way, Zellers has a wayyyy better yarn selection than Wal-Mart, at least between the two I visited. Fancy acrylic over at Zellers.

Last but not least, Christmas present socks for my sister.

Aren’t the stripes nifty? I want some of the blue/green colourway for myself. Anyway, this pic was taken earlier this evening, before and hour of tv, so I’m just about done! One to tick off the list…many to go.

  • a saga of thumbs

Well. I followed the decreases for the thumb from the Knitter’s Handy Book of Patterns, and that didn’t work out so well.

I had a big ugly blob of stitches at the end where I drew the yarn end through. I must’ve ripped it out five times! Eventually I did my own thing – just knit straight till the end, then k2tog around, then thread the end through the stitches.

Pattern: my own, for my tiny hands
Yarn: Knitpicks Sock Garden, 2 skeins (yarn held double)
    Needles: 3 mm dpns
    Finished: November 17, 2005

And here’s a big pile o’ Koigu – all the hexagons for the skirt are DONE!

The piles in the back are the first and third tiers, and are all connected into their respective tiers. The pile in the front is the middle tier, not yet all connected. There’s a whole lotta finishing let to do though – check out all those ends!

  • busy, mimi, did I mention busy?

Not much new around here – I didn’t make my self-imposed deadline on the knee socks, so since that’s passed I obviously haven’t worked on them at all! I do want to finish up the current socks though, so I can get some new ones on the needles.

This is what I worked on ALL DAY yesterday while chilling with Stephanie – it’s Amy’s mimi verylong. I cast on fewer stitches for a narrower scarf. There’s quite a lot of it, but all the photos were crappy. Better photos when it’s done.

I’m using my own handdyed, handspun merino! Exciting, and sooo soft. Mmmm.

What else…I bought a bit of new yarn! It’s Elann’s Highland Silk, which is 80% wool and 20% silk. I got enough of the Oxblood (right) for a sweater, and just one ball of the Ruby to check out the colour (it’s a nice, bright Christmas-y red).

Elann has Rowan Cork up now – I want some really badly, but no! Must not buy yarn!

P.S. Winter IK preview is up!
