  • down to the wire

Well, the Big Paper is due on Wednesday, so as soon as that’s in I’m sure there’s going to be a whole lotta new stuff going on around here! Although, I still have to study for finals…shhhhhh.

Anyway, I did finally manage to finish a Whitby sock. Shown sans grafting, which of course I did just after I took the picture.

I managed to screw up one of the repeats in the foot (and anyone who has knit these knows that’s nearly impossible!) but I didn’t notice till after it was done. Oh well, it’s staying now. I’ll replicate it on the second sock.

And a new skein. Blue face leicester.

This is much heavier than my usual for some reason – it’s 100g and only 130 yards. I usually get over 200 at least. It’s not much thicker than my usual worsted weights (although it is, by a bit) but I think the real difference is that I didn’t really predraft. So there’s not as much air in there, thus it’s denser. But I kind of like it, it’s heavy and seems like it’d be hard-wearing. Tightly plied, since the singles were pretty tightly spun.

Aaaaand…it’s striping! Quite long repeats, 2 of them, with some blending areas between. There are only 6 colour changes (3 colours x 2 repeats) so it’d be more like a gentle fade.

Apologies for the blurry photos; I’m feeling a bit blurry myself at the moment. Time for bed!

  • oh, hello.

Whoops, I didn’t mean to let so many days by! I’ve been buried under the Big Paper (the survey one – it’s coming along) and haven’t really had much progress to show.

A few more woven squares from the other day –

The yellow one is leftover Knitpicks Merino Style for the warp and handspun merino for the weft. And the one on the left/bottom is some handspun. I’m using slightly thicker yarns for the squares now, about sport or DK weight, and I really like the density. As for what to do with them…I’m thinking some kinda crazy quilt at some point. We’ll see.

I also finally re-did the sleeve caps on the Cable/Rib cardi, and I sewed them in – they still could’ve been a bit shorter, but it’ll do. I still have one sleeve seam to do, then the collar and toggles – I’m not really feeling the love at the moment, but I think those finishing touches will really help.

Oh, and while I remember – my custom stamp is from rstamp.net. It was a bit pricey (mainly the shipping…but I know how expensive shipping is in Canada!) but I got exactly what I wanted so I think it was worth it.

And another thing, while I’m remembering random things – the Socks that Rock isn’t in yet; the skein I got was a gift from Tina through Steph, through megan. Hold tight, though – it left a week ago yesterday (Friday) so it should be here soon!

  • sweater with a big hole in it

    Yup.

I’ve completed the medallion shaping on the back of Dreamcatcher, and just have some neck decreases and work evens to finish! Then it’s onto the fun part – the innards of the dreamcatcher.

Meanwhile, I’m trying to work on my paper and keep getting distracted. Evidence:

Top: Knitpicks Sock Garden in “Zinnia”, bottom: handspun.

Still just working away, really, haven’t had time to start any new projects (although I want to!) – I did reknit the sleeve cap on cable/rib, and it looks much better. Still need to do the second one….Actually, now that I think about it, I should go rip that one. Ah, procrastination.

megan gave me an awesome present – a skein of Socks that Rock, in the “Prove it all night” colourway. Brighter than it looks here; recently seen over at grumperina’s. Yay!
