I had a reeeeally rough day yesterday. Even worse than usual. Today’s only slightly better. I’ve still got SO MUCH work to do. I’m on break until 9 pm now, though – dinner, Enterprise, and knitting all at once.

I’ve finished the two sleeves of my Jo Sharp cardi, and have cast on for the body. I hope I can get through it quickly, because I’d really like a new sweater! Must Have has been on hold for a bit, but I can just sort of pick it up whenever to work a few rows. No progress on my grandfather’s scarf, but I have made another decision – I’m going to make a hat for my cousin M. He’s 16 (I think…), very into music, and punky. I was going to make him a black scarf, but I changed my mind and am going to use some Mission Falls 1824 Cotton to do a ribbed cap. Should be pretty easy.

I also really want to cast on for my cousin T’s sideways scarf as well – it would use 8mm needles and be really skinny so there’d be a lot less knitting than my grandfather’s scarf. But, but, but….I’ll wait until I finish something else. Mini-charlotte maybe?

  • is being down a good reason for buying yarn?

Well, I don’t much care either way.

I can’t decide what I want to do with it, though. It depends on the gauge I get. If I can get 18 st/4″ I’ll have various pattern options, but I’m really leaning towards a basic bottom-up raglan like Rosedale United. Doesn’t much matter what gauge, for that – I can wing it.

Things are progressing slowly on the cabled ribby and my grandfather’s scarf. Oh, I didn’t tell that story. I’m doing a scarf for my grandfather with the Peruvian Collection Highland Wool, in Coffee Bean Brown. It’s knit sideways (ie. I cast on the length). The first time I did it, I cast on wayyyy too many stitches. Luckily, I realized this before I’d gotten very far, and actually calculated how many I needed (350) before casting on. I’m finished the first ball, which gave me a little over an inch towards the width of the scarf. I’m going to see how much I get out of two balls (I’ve got four), and if it seems a little narrow I’ll add a stripe of something else – possibly this dark green Inca Alpaca (by Classic Elite) that I’ve got laying around.

I went to a friend’s and taught her how to knit tonight! That was fun.

    Off to study and worry.

    Damn you, Elann!! Gahhh!!!!

I did resist this afternoon, and now my first choice (oxblood) is all gone. My second choice is Chocolate Truffle. Must…resist….until all is gone.

    More later.
I got marks back on a couple big tests and suffice it to say I’m dissatisfied with myself. I hate how other people can do so much less work and get better marks. Happy knitting pictures will have to wait until later this weekend, I’m too goddamn depressed.
