  • the yarn-buying disease

Thursday I went to the Creative Sewing and Needlework Festival. It was really, really quiet when I went, but I heard that today (Friday) was way more packed. I’m sure the weekend will be too.

There were a pretty decent number of yarny-type places, but really not all that much of interest to me. If I was more in a sewing or beading frame of mind, maybe. Thinking back, I really should’ve bought some silk brocade to make a fancy holiday skirt, but I think I’d be too afraid of screweing it up!

I did end up buying a couple things – a skein of Cherry Tree Hill sock yarn (it’s really green, I’m sure you’ll see it in better colour another day) and an extra skein of Silky Tweed from Redbirdknits. And a Celtic Collection by you-know-who (am I even allowed to put this picture on here? Yikes) from the Needle Arts Book Shop.

And then today at work I bought a skein of Handmaiden cashmere and a sweater stone. The cashmere is for a simple scarf for me, yum.

Oh, and a few days ago I finished setting the twist in the Lorna’s Laces Wool Top that I bought at KW – I did it all as singles, and it’s faboo. Now, what to do with it?

How I wish I was at Rhinebeck with you lucky people!!

  • socks go to Yale

I don’t know if you’ll recall, but at the end of August I was frantically knitting away on a secret project, seen here by candlelight. I don’t think I ever did give the details on that one, so here they are!

The project wasn’t all that exciting, really – a pair of socks, out of Knitpicks Sock Landscape in Yukon. A perfect Yale shade of blue, actually, as they were for a very smart friend (that’s his blog link) headed off to Yale for law school this year!

Friday I received a lovely card and a photo of the socks lounging about in a schmancy Yale library.

    Pretty cool, eh?

  • so busy, so tired

I’ve sooo much going on with school (like an all-day lab field trip for environmental biology tomorrow) and I think I just agreed to do a largish but easy commissioned knit project. Well, at least that one sounds like it could be cool (my first large commisioned piece!) but it’ll take while and be somewhat boring. I can’t start until the yarn comes in, anyway.

I don’t have any photos today due to my camera batteries being dead, but I’m making a wee bit of progress on things:

simply autumn: coming along. I’m working on the bust increases and counting the rows actually seems to make it go faster
koigu skirt – I’m allllmost done the first tier of hexagons. Next up I’ll do the largest ones, so when I get to the middle-sized ones, they’ll feel faster.
katy: front and back are done, and I’ve started a sleeve! I hope to work on that on the bus tomorrow.

I think that’s about it. I’ve got ideas of knee socks percolating, but actually measuring my, uh, well developed calves was kind of discouraging. We’ll see, I really do want to do them though.

Monica – the Joy is in the store. I repeat, the Joy is in the store!
