Torontonians: does it seem like it’s been raining a LOT? I’m starting to get tired of perpetually wet pant-bottoms. Ew. That said, the rain sure sounds nice when I’m all inside and dry with my knitting…

I have finally completed my commission knitting for the time being, so it’s on to bigger and better things!

    Traveler’s Stockings
Pattern: Knitting on the Road by Nancy Bush (love that book!)
Yarn: Louet Gems Pearl, dyed by me, 2 skeins
Needles: Knitpicks 2 mm, 32″ circ

    Notes:
Although the divine Ms. Bush calls for 3 skeins of koigu (same yardage as the Louet), I only used 2. Perhaps mine are a bit shorter in the leg than she calls for, but I still had a bit of yarn left from each ball. Whatev, now I have a third skein of this colourway to play with. Maybe anklets?

The knitpicks circs worked really well, especially for those traveling stitches! Addis would never have cut it for me. Unfortunately I did find that my hands tired faster with the metal needles, since I’m not used to them and they are more rigid than the bamboo I’m used to. Ah well, I shall continue to use whatever I have at my disposal.

Lovely pattern indeed, easy to read once you get through a bit of the first chart. The traveling stitches made it easy to keep track of how many rows were on each sock. I LOVE the back of the cuff.

Oh, and I swapped out the gusset heel for a short row one. I don’t have anything againt gusset heels, in fact I have quite a few pairs with one. But I find a short row heel is so nice because you don’t have to count or ever have more stitches than you started with. And now that I’ve got my technique down, it’s short row all the way.

    No holes!

    How about some yarn?

This is a skein of 100% tussah silk that I spun up as a 2ply, then dyed a nice deep blue. I have another skein I dyed a great raspberry colour, but it wouldn’t photograph well – now, the question is what to do with them?

Saturday was the KW Knitters’ Fair and it rocked. I haven’t bought yarn in awhile (the thing was no yarn/fibre till KW, then no yarn till Rhinebeck) so it was really….satisfying? Hm.

Anyway, I went with KnittyAmy, Diane, and Tamarah, absolutely wonderful yarn-fest companions. Amy’s talk went great, I think. Not too much traffic (more coming back), pho (although no veggie pho for me! had to settle for the same ol’ tofu and veg) and yarn = one good time, and four sleepy gals.

    The haul…

    From left:
Claudia Handpainted from Pickupsticks, a new online yarn shop specializing in handdyed, handspun and otherwise unique yarns, and run by my pal Connie.
Worsted Polwarth and fingering weight Polwarth/Silk from Rovings (sooo yummy)
Briggs and Little – the blue is Regal, the burgundy is Heritage. How do you say no to $3/skein?!

Yes, there are multiples of each of these. Well, not the Polwarth/Silk, actually – there’s enough yardage in there for a good sized shawl.

I also got a wee bit o’ fibre:

Three balls of superwash merino and a couple of batts (loooove ’em) from Laurie at The Black Lamb in Port Hope. I really got to get out there sometime. I also got a bag of pin-drafted grey alpaca, which is soo very soft.

Car knitting was the plain black alpaca pullover – I’m just about to the sleeve/body division now.

All in all, one very satisfying day. And drinks with the wonderful Sophie at the Rosewater afterward, although I don’t have any photos of that (where’s the photos, Soph?). I actually felt a wee bit of the overwhelm-sion at the show, though – I can’t even image how Rhinebeck will be. At least we’ll have a bit longer to check things out! I can’t wait!

Black alpaca sweater on ebony circs? Hmmm, my eyes might not like me for this…

…but the needles are soo nice. Lantern Moon, 4 mm, 26″.

I spun a bunch today (first time in a wee while) and ended up with these three skeins among the “leftovers”.

The melon one in the back is the small amount of 2 ply I spun onto a second bobbin after filling one. The one in the middle is the leftover singles from that yarn plied with the leftovers from a yellow/orange (that’s up on etsy), and then the yellow yarn in the front is the remaining leftovers navajo-plied. Yum yum. There’s only a few yards of each (50 for the in-between one, 30 for the yellow, not sure about the melon) but put together into a colour graded hat or something they’d be awesome.

More colour: pretty-ing up some roving to use at the store for my next drop spindle class. I’m planning on dyeing a lot more this week. I especially love the electric violet of the one on the right.

Finally, in actual knitting, the second Traveler’s Stocking (from Knitting on the Road) is up to the heel, ready to be turned in tomorrow’s sock class at the store. Soon to be complete!
