  • One of the Hardest Things to do…

…is to come up with a witty title.

Last night at Ilana’s party, I managed to finish 70 rows on the front or back (they’re the same) of Eyelet throughout the night. Festivities included playing a hilarious games called Apples to Apples, and watching Clue the movie! Clue was an awesome movie, with three endings!

The yarn I’m using for Eyelet is the Naturelle 8/8 from Elann, in Denim. It’s really nice – soft and sturdy, and the white flecks in it give a sort of tweedy look to the fabric. Plus the price can’t be beat!

Today I worked on a project that I’m doing for the yarn store I work at, Lettuce Knit. It’s a dress by a designer called “Surfer Girl Knits!” (I can’t find a link) and the suggested yarn is Eros. I’m using Blue Heron Yarns’ Confetti. I split for the front and back, and worked the back. Just the fronts (it’s a v-neck) and little sleeves to go. Thank goodness – that 27″ of stockinette in the round was pretty tiresome.

    Current Works in Progress
1.) Eyelet Skirt from Knitty, in Naturelle 8/8 – about half of the front finished
2.) Toeless socks, in Mission Falls 1824 cotton – one sock finished, the second on is on the needles
3.) 2x2x3x1 Ribby Cardie from Chicknits, in black Cotton-Ease – a few round of the first sleeve done
4.) Silk Scarf, knit with Mango Moon Recycled Silk

Hm. I *think* that’s all of them. Currently on hold is a top-down raglan in Koigu Kersti (yum!).

    Queue
1.) Bella Cardigan from White Lies Designs. Got the pattern, yarn is on its way.
2.) A ChicKami or two from Chicknits. Pattern and yarn are ready.
3.) Go-Everywhere cardigan from Stitch ‘n Bitch, with modifications, in black Elann Sonata.

I’ve also got to figure out what to do with the rest of the Sonata cotton from Elann.

Wow, that was a long post! Off to fiddle with my layout.

  • Party #1

This morning I went with my family to the cemetary to meet with extended family in the Chinese tradition of “paying respects” to my great-grandmother and great-grandfather. It involves planting flowers, lighting incense, and….eating! Yep, we eat a pretty big spread right there in the cemetary. I think people driving by think we’re nuts…

At any rate, I finished knitting a Bottom’s Up Bucket from Chicknits, out of Lion Brand Cotton-Ease in Red and 4 mm Denise needles. I made the medium size for my large head, as the gauge of the yarn is slightly larger than what is called for. The hat is cute, but it definitely needs some blocking!

I got my first box from Elann yesterday! It’s my first online yarn purchase ever, and I couldn’t be happier! I got a cone of Naturelle 8/8 in Denim forEyelet from Knitty, 13 skeins (I don’t think I’ll need that much, but better to have leftovers, of course) of Black Sonata cotton for a Go-Everywhere Cardigan from Stitch ‘n Bitch, and 7 skeins each of Sonata in Burgandy Rose and Sonata Print in Summer Sky for tank tops…or something, I’m not quite sure yet. I’m rather ashamed to say that although I really shouldn’t be spending even MORE money on yarn, there’s another box from Elann winging its way to me now. Eeek. At least for that box it’s less than $50 CDN.

I’m going to a party tonight and want to start Eyelet, so I’m winding off a rather large ball from the Naturelle to take with me. I figure that once I can’t hold the ball to wind it, I’ll stop.

    Cheers!

  • My First Real Post.

As the title implies, this is a post that is not a test!

Name’s Laura. I’m entering my second year of undergraduate studies at University of Toronto, where I’m studying Biology and Linguistics. I also have a job at the wonderful Lettuce Knit.

I was taught to knit quite a few years ago by my cousin, but didn’t take it up seriously until about November of 2003. Since then, I’ve dived right into the knitting web-culture and been pretty prolific in my knitting!

I keep a Livejournal, but have decided it was time to separate the knitting stuff and the life stuff. Pictures may be a bit slow coming up until I have a new digital camera (I hate using the old one, but I will just to have a few pictures up), and you’ll have to bear with me as I learn how to fiddle with my Blogger code.

    Hope to see y’all soon!
