  • you call that berry?

I received my bag of big wool that I won off eBay yesterday, and it’s not quite the colour I was hoping for. It was called “merry berry”, but it’s really more of a…like a subdued coral colour. Oh well, I’ve started a top-down cardi in it, and if I truly hate the colour I can a) only wear it around the house or b) give it away/ sell it or c) frog it and make a blanket.

I bought a new 12mm needle at the store to knit it on – (aside: Kelly and Emma – I forgot to put that little sign on the door when I left and had to go back. har, har) and it’s going SO fast. I’m on my third ball of yarn and have already done the raglan increases and put the sleeve stitches on holders. I used the cast-on method from the Incredible Raglan Sweater generator, and it’s lookin’ good. I’m knitting in garter buttonbands, although it looks like they may want to fold over. After I finish this ball on the body, I’m going to do the sleeves, then continue on the body with the remaining yarn. That way, if I run out, it’ll just be a little bit shorter in the body rather than the sleeves.

I’m just rambling on and on, aren’t I?

I finished the second manos legwarmer, and I need to get the first one back on the needles to add an extra inch or so. I’ve also started the first sleeve of the Lotech.

    Pictures? Sure.

Syncopated Ribs just before it was completed.

The Manos I’m using for the legwarmers. It’s hard to get a good colour pic, though – it’s darker than in this picture.

also: I want my Ben Folds book, dammit! I ordered it through the “marketplace” thing on Amazon, and I was really hoping it would get here this week. Also there’s the Jo Sharp Silkroad (which I clearly won’t be knitting with for awhile). And the Cotton-Ease, which I’m not expecting for awhile (like a month or two).

  • almost there

Sort of. I met with a friend tonight to study syntax, and we actually did study for a good three hours or so. I’m not as completely screwed as I was 24 hours ago, hooray! Unfortunately, I didn’t have a great day otherwise – I messed up my bio lab somehow and will probably get a very low mark on it. Good thing it’s only worth 1%. My midterm tomorrow is from 7-9, after which I’ll be going to SnB…so maybe someone ought to make good on that idea about wine ;)

I’ve had the “new post” window over for a couple minutes, but I wanted to wait until I could truely say…Syncopated Ribs is done, ends and all. I just dumped her in the wash, so FO pictures once the laundry gets done. I probably have enough yarn left over that I could’ve done full-length sleeves (the cuff ends a couple of inches above the wrist, currently) but it would’ve been close. I think I like the sleeve length now, though.

I also finished one of my Manos legwarmers today and started the second one. Mmm mm manos! I lurve the colours. Pictures of those soon too, I just don’t really have time to take them off the camera, resize, upload, etc.

I do have some pictures, though: the lotech sweat…

The back. It’s nothing exciting, but it’s done. And here’s a shot of where I am on a front.

It’ll take awhile to finish this one, because it’s my take-to-school project (although not right now, right now the Manos legwarmers are getting the take-along love). I do have a plan of attack, though: after this front, both sleeves and then the other front, and then the pockets. I’m not going to do a hood – I’ll be doing a collar instead.

    Must study…or something…and sleep. It’s been a loooong day.

P.S. You guys have probably already seen this, but Elann says new stock on the Jo Sharp Silkroad Tweed in two weeks. You know, I think I’m done buying yarn for awhile, the binge may have been hormone-induced…I’m not really feeling the stash-enhancing pull anymore, I don’t think.

  • stress

Well, I got through my botany lab today (they’re great, very chill), and I’ve finished my biology paper tomorrow and printed my prelab. Booyah! Now I just need to study for this test on Wednesday – I really need to study some tonight, can’t be putting it ALL off until tomorrow!

Thanks for all the kind comments on Tartan! I got nice comments on livejournal too – just for you, Jane, in case you haven’t found it yet – the livejournal knitting community. It’s comfy, but a bit snug in the arms still. Sometime soon I’ll put on a sweater, squeeze the jacket over it, spray it with water and walk around like that (at home) until it dries. And possibly repeat that until they loosen a bit. I also need to get some closures, I’m thinking toggles. I’ll pick them up probably on Thursday before work.

I’m taking a break from my work (right now) to take a shower and chill out a bit, and I’ve started ripping my Banff. It’s actually quite straighforward, and I’ve got the pieces separated and one sleeve completely frogged. The yarn’s nice and soft, but also rugged, just what I was going for (it’s Patons Upcountry). The yarn will need to be skeined and washed, but that probably won’t be for awhile.

As you can see in my sidebar, I’ve started a pair of legwarmers out of the same Manos that I used in my sweater. I just cast on 44, did 2×2 rib for about 2 inches and then started stockinette. I’m using 5mm dpns so they’re knit nice and tight, and I’m a little over half done one. It’s perfect for take-along. And the colours – ooh! So pretty. All brown-orange-rust-gold. Very autumn.

Syncopated ribs is finally getting some attention again. I finished up one cuff and started the second one, and since they’re not particularly long I’ll probably finish the other cuff tomorrow. And then I need to do the 2 sleeve seams and weave in ends, and throw it in the wash.

I’d post pics but I haven’t got much time right now! There’ll probably be a glut of pictures on Wednesday or Thursday. Or Friday.
