  • that’s all, folks!

Wha-hoo! I made it! I’ll put up my grad photo soon ; ) My last exam went okay (not super-great, but fine) and I even managed to get an A+ on the last paper that I got back. It’s awhile until convocation (it’s June 20 for me) so there’ll be a wait for the piece of paper and cap-and-gown photo, but still. It’s all done.

And what did I do after? Go to the store, hang out for a bit, then go over to the boyfriend’s and have dinner and catch up on Grey’s. Not that exciting, but nice. And then the fabulous Joyce had a birthday party on Saturday night, which was the realy partying night (partied a little too hard).

Today I woke up late, had lunch (yep), went to check out the soon-to-be-mine allotment garden plot and then for a bike ride. Out for early mother’s day dinner, since my mom will be out of town next weekend. A few hours spinning and catching up on taped shows, and here I am – ready to unleash some backlogged photos of things.

    jitterbug socks

Finally finished – a pair of Jitterbug socks. 60 sts on Knitpicks US 0 circs, top down with a short row heel.

All the yarn was from the same ball, but no matchy! Oh well. These socks are really comfy and fit great. And I love the colours! So nice and bright. Although the yardage seems really short, it was fine – in fact, I wish I’d made the cuffs longer…

    nineteen

Oddly, the socks themselves weighed 89 g – so I had 108 g of yarn! Maybe I should start a leftover sock yarn blanket soon.

    New socks:

    a very lucky sock

STR in Farmhouse. I started these socks at the Frolic, and then proceeded to leave my go knit pouch and the sock behind when we left! I called the next day, and luckily they’d put it in the lost and found for me. It definitely wasn’t the worst thing I could’ve left, but I was very glad to get it back nonetheless – it’s working up really nicely.

Now? There’s so much crafting (and gardening) to be done! I’ve got a near-FO and a bunch of other random in-progress stuff, but I think it’s time I cast on for something celebratory. Guesses?

  • old socks, new yarn

    tuscany socks

I finished the Tuscany (Lorna’s Laces) socks a loooong time ago but never blogged them! They’re just basic socks, 68 sts on 2mm needles, 3×1 ribbing and normal heel flap. I made them for the boyfriend’s brother, who wore them to an important interview…and got the job!

In new yarn news, the Rowan Pure Wool DK that I got awhile back for the short-row fair isle in Loop-d-loop:

    rowan pure wool DK

The main colours are the light pink and dark pink/red. I was a bit disappointed with the light pink colour at first but I think it’ll all work out. Some swatching is in order, of course, and I can always just supplement with other colours if needed.

I’ll be having a BIG handspun destashing sale tomorrow. Stay tuned!

  • the dark side

First up, the love for socks is definitely back!

    jitterbug'n

I just finished a pair of socks for the boyfriend’s brother (the fact that he is visiting town this weekend was probably a good motivating factor) – I got the second sock knit in 2 days! It’s not one of those huuuuge man socks, just a bit longer on both the cuff and foot than I do for myself. But, it is out of Lorna’s Laces on 2 mm. So I’m pretty proud of that. Photos to come.

The sock above is from the class on sock knitting I taught the last two weeks – the second week we did a short-row heel, so mine’s in the middle of the foot now. It’s Colinette Jitterbug, which despite it being quite thick, I’m knitting on 2 mm needles as well – and it’s still not really as tight a fabric as I’d like. The colours are awesome though, and it feels really lovely.

Today I went to that shiny, glitteriest of all stores, the bead store…Arton. I may have spent much more than I intended to. I did used to do a lot of beading when I was a kid, mainly a lot of daisy chains. I suppose I never really learned the “right” way with crimp beads and pliers and such, but my creations still turned out well! I’m embarking on a bit more of an ambitious project though…a multi-stranded, short-ish necklace out of mainly fiery red crystal and stone beads (with a few clear and gold thrown in) with a cool magnetic slide lock clasp and yes, crimp beads.

I have to go back tomorrow for the crimp beads, since I had no idea what I was doing when I was in the store and forgot a couple things. Like…proper cord. I did buy some, but it’s not quite right. So, tomorrow.

    Stay tuned!
