The Licorice cardi is finally, finally done!

I had the wonderful Megan H. put in the zipper for me, and she did a most fantastic job.

    Licorice cardi
    Pattern: see pattern notes
Yarn: Lion Brand Cotton-ease, Licorice, 5.5 skeins
    Needles: Denise US 6 & 7 (4 and 4.5 mm)
    Started: April 23, 2005
    Finished: May 30, 2005

    Pattern notes:
This sweater is a bottom-up raglan, with the body done in one piece and the sleeves in the round. I started from Rosedale, but changed many things. Details:
    – knit-in hem on body and sleeves
    – front bands done with a knit in slip-stitch facing
    – different shaping on both body and sleeves
    – pocket from Rogue
    – collar…well. I did a rolled collar, but the wrong way. Then I sewed it down with the stockinette side facing out.

Soft, super comfy, machine wash, with a zipper! It’s my new go-to cardi!

    Something else finished…finished yarn.

2 skeins of colonial wool top, hand-dyed, bought from eBay. The colours are amazing and it was super easy to spin – although definitely took some time on the drop spindle! (need wheel now.) It’s only about 200 yards total, bulky 2-ply. The spinning and plying are…not that great. But it’s still pretty, and was a learning experience right? Now the question is, what to do with it?

I’ve decided to start some new projects. Isn’t that shiny new project feeling oh-so-good?

Well, first up some boy socks. They are grey Fortissima Cottolaua, on 2 mm Clover dpns – I wanted Brittanys, but these were the ones we had at the store and although they are long, they have good points. So it’s all good. These are going fast-ish compared to the two socks at once approach, but we’ll see how I feel about that after the first sock!

I also started “Sideways Spencer” from Fall 2004 Interweave, by Annie Modesitt. I’m using Brown Sheep Cotton Fleece in “Olivette”, and it is SO GORGEOUS. The stitch definition! The smoothness! The colour! Colour’s all wrong in this photo (stupid grey day) – it’s a warm olive.

I love it. I’m modifying the length by adding an extra pattern repeat and probably more ribbing, as well. So it’s no longer a spencer, but is still beautiful.

Oh, and I finished the sari silk scarf. This scarf was less about actually wanting the scarf and more about wanting 1) a fast project and 2) the silk off my shelf.

    Other tidbit updates:
    – the zipper for the black cardi has been basted in. it really just needs less than an hour to sew it in and be done – hopefully this weekend sometime.
    – on wearing the knitted items – ubernatural is a winner, although falls off the shoulders a bit. the skirt is holding up well and is super comfy! soleil – the neckline *is* a bit low, but otherwise it’s comfy and the length is good.

I’m getting sick, it would seem – my sister’s been home all week with a throat thing and now I’m feeling the throat tickle despite sucking down the vitamin C. I hope my dad buys the oregano oil I asked him to – I really can’t afford to get sick, as there is so much schoolwork and things to do!

    Hey, it’s a knit outfit!

    Ubernatural
Pattern: Ubernatural from Magknits, by Glampyre
Yarn: Katia Pisco, from Elann, double stranded, somewhere around 7-8 skeins
Needles: Denise US 15 (10 mm)
    Started: May 12, 2005
    Finished: May 24, 2005

A super fast knit. I should’ve done another two increase rows if I wanted it to close over my bust properly, but oh well.
Changes: lengthened the sleeves, lengthened total body, more increase rows, reduced ribbing, no body shaping, fewer buttons.

    Wavy Skirt
Pattern: from Interweave Knits Spring 2005
Yarn: Brown Sheep Cotton Fleece, “Candy Apple”, 4 skeins
    Needles: Denise US 5, 6, 7 (3.75, 4, 4.5 mm)
    Started: April 25, 2005
    Finished: May 24, 2005

I made up a size between the two sizes given, and it’s a tad loose in the waist but with the drawstring it’s fine. Comfy – I think I’ll wear it today!
Changes: made up a size, lengthened st st portion, double length chain drawstring.

I’ve been doing some other, small stuff lately:

I knit a swatch, for a skrit for my little sister.

And I’m knitting a little scarf out of leftover Mango Moon recycled silk.

    Have a good day!
