back in action

I’m back! Indy was good, although I didn’t get the chance to check out that yarn store you were all on about! Next time.

I cam back to the fabric I ordered from Cia’s Palette last week. Yay, fabric!

I think the sewing bug comes in waves, definitely stronger in the spring and summer when I can whip up some skirts and bags (well, mostly skirts really) to wear out and about. And I think my laptop sleeve experience spurred on the sewing thing, too.

Not that I don’t already have a fabric stash. Cuz I do. I really must figure out what to make with it all! Anyway, I had trouble narrowing down the fabrics I wanted to something within reason, but I ended up with (left to right):

– Alexander Henry fabric for a skirt, perhaps wrappy-type,
– unknown “Homespun Simple Check”, probably for a dress,
– some Amy Butler for a top
– and the last two pieces are Chocolate Lollipop (which I love!), for a top and a skirt.

The tops will definitely be of the Built by Wendy cap-sleeve persuasion, from the pattern at right. I’ve never made a top before, but since this one’s a raglan and supposedly very easy, I think I can do it! I might try the dress, too, if the top turns out well.

A closeup of the Galaxy print. I’m thinking a nice flowy circle skirt, my favourite for the summer. All the fabric’s in the process of being washed at the moment, and I think I might even give something (a top) a whirl tonight.

In the meanwhile, I’m taking a chill day and watching some Buffy, and knitting my Manos silk sweater – it’s coming out great!

I made two versions of Simplicity 4077 last week and they both came out great. The pattern was very straightforward. You can see pictures on my blog if you’re so inclined

I am envious of those with the ability to sew. Maybe someday when I have the time and patience. Love that green!

Good luck with your sewing venture! I love to sew, but with two little toddlers running around, it’s much easier for me to find snippets of time for knitting. You know, all those moving parts with sewing machines . . .makes for a potential disaster, lol!

I love the fabrics you chose, and I think they’ll be really pretty!

I love all of the little dots in the Galaxy print. I have a tulip skirt I started (tries not to count) about two years ago. I always have a hard time when I get to the hemming part. I’m still trying to find a hemming technique that works for me.

I’ve made that shirt and mine turned out great. It was my first sewn garment and I love it so much. I want to make a bunch more. Can’t wait to see yours.

Oh, I have to learn to sew. For some reason my sewing machine and I haven’t figured out a way to get along yet.

I made your Paneer recipe tonight and it was SO good! Thank you so much for sharing it.

Ooooh, love the fabric! Once we have a bigger living space and I get my knitting/sewing room, I’m going to learn how to really sew :) The Manos Silk is such a dream!

I’m loving your sweater concept so far. Can’t wait to see the pattern. The Manos looks like it’s a dream to knit with. I might have to go out and get some at my LYS.

That is such a cute top! I like your fabric choice and it looks like you did a great job sewing. Also, thanks for the tip on sewing a fabric swatch so you know which is the back. I am going to use that tip! Thanks!

Oh my–I’m not sure what happened but I read your blog through Bloglines and there are a lot of filthy, filthy words at the bottom of this entry! Hope you’ve already caught this unfortunateness.

P.S. The sewing looks fab! Love the accessories.

I’m entertained… I just bought that exact same yarn to make a present for my mom. I can’t wait to use it!
