No pictures tonight…maybe tomorrow? (I’m sorry!)

I headed off to work today, and I got all the way there (an hour on the subway) before realizing that I had forgotten the sleeve that I was working on for the shop at home*. Whoopsie. I had, however, packed my turtleneck shrug in my bag, and I managed to finish one of the sleeves and start the second.

Here’s a not-so-great thing, though: the ribbed sleeve is worked in the round, then some stitches are cast off and the rest worked back and forth. My ribbing on the majority of the sleeve looks great – but where I switch to back and forth, it looks like crap! Obviously either my purls or my knits are looser (betting it’s the purls). I’ll have to work on that, but I don’t think it’ll bug me too much for this little project.

Stitch and bitch tomorrow (Wednesday) is my last one until December, most likely (damn night classes!). I miiiight be able to make it sometimes later on in the evening, but we’ll see. So everyone come on out tomorrow night!

    * I finished the sleeve tonight while watching 4 hours of the CSI marathon on Spike – how long has that marathon been going on? LIke 2 days? CSI is a crazy addictive show.

  • declaration

    Okay, you know what?

I’m going on a yarn diet.

    Reasons?
    – I’m a poor student starting classes again this week
    – I’ve got a LOT of yarn. The project backlog is huge.
    – I’m just kind of starting to feel guilty about having so much money tied up in the yarn, ya know? I mean, yarn is wonderful and such, but I realllly just need to save up some money for now.

    Exceptions:
    – the rest of the yarn for the Tartan Jacket
    – if I run out of yarn for something I’m working on, I can buy enough to finish the project.

We’ll see how long this lasts.

  • Home again

Actually, I got home last night, but I was too pooped to post. No pictures today unfortunately (and I really wanted to post pictures) because the camera lived with my sister over the weekend and she took tons of pictures and drained the batteries.

    ****WARNING****LONG POST ABOUT SHOPPING*****

Friday morning we hopped in the car and headed for the border, getting there at about 11 am (we left a little after 9). Our first pit stop was this McDonalds/Dennys/truck stop thing between Buffalo and Erie – we stop there pretty much every time we take that route. Next stop Erie, where we spent a few hours at Millcreek Mall. There was an A.C. Moore there, which of course I stopped at – and damn, it blows the other craft stores away! They had at least 5 aisles of yarn – of course most of it was crap, but there were unexpected brands there. Gedifra and Araucania Nature Wool anyone?

Anyway I wandered for a bit before picking up *drumroll please* Cotton-Ease on clearance for $2 per skein, and no tax! I also couldn’t resist this 50% merino/44%microfiber/6% CASHMERE no-name yarn there for $5.95 – I got two of cream, and one each of black and red…the first trip.

We got back in the car and drove another hour to Grove City and our hotel for the night, Comfort Inn (right across the street from the outlet mall, har). We went and shopped until almost closing time – I got 2 skirts and 2 shirts from the Gap outlet and stuff from Aeropostale that was 40% off, and addition 30% that night. Saturday we checked out of the hotel and shopped some more. I got a bunch of clothes from American Outpost and two pairs of shoes – lace-up flats from Nine West and a pair of boots by Aerosole.

Drove back to Erie and went to Millcreek Mall again after dinner. Note: it is difficult to find vegetarian food in the places we visited. I got some clothes from JCPenny and Charlotte Russe, and….I went back to A.C. Moore. I picked up some more of the merino/cashmere yarn, one each of the cream, black and red. I’m thinking a little keyhole scarf with the cream, and armwarmers or legwarmers with the black and red.

We stayed at the Courtyard by Marriott on Saturday night, and on Sunday we just a few crappy places. Old Navy (I did get a bunch of clearance yoga tanks – good for climbing), Wal-Mart (got some socks) and Jo-Ann (wayyyyy disappointing). Got back in the car and drove home! I did pretty well this trip, for someone that doesn’t really like clothes shopping anymore. Maybe I just needed to get back in the mindset. At any rate, I’ve got a whole bunch of new clothes now for the new school year!

…did I mention I went to Michael’s as well? No? Well, I did (it was also at Millcreek Mall – damn, Erie’s got all three within 5 minutes of each other) and no Cotton-Ease or anything of interest, really. I saw Patons Katrina, which is pretty squishy and interesting.

    Knitting Content:
I didn’t get as much done as I would have liked, but I finished the back of Bella and have about 15″ done on one sleeve of the turtleneck shrug. For the shrug, I’m using TLC Cotton Plus in navy. I had really wanted to use black, but Zellers didn’t have the stock when I went and I’m impatient, so….navy it is.

    Whew! Pictures later or tomorrow!
