  • of needles and things

Sorry for the unexpected blogging break – I was so uninspired, I had nothing to say (and that doesn’t happen often!). But, I think I’lm back on track now.

So up first, the Koigu gloves are finally done! (Ends still need to be woven in, but we’ll just ignore that for now.)

Pattern’s from the Knitter’s Handy Book of Patterns, on Brittany 2.75mm double points. I used juuuuust over one skein of Koigu KPPPM for both – I only needed to break into the second skein for two fingers and the thumb of the second glove. That leaves me with almost an entire skein to play with…I think I might make some socks or something out of the rainbow Koigu leftovers I’ve accumulated.

I’ve been bit by the sock bug.

And just as Adele was at Romni today buying this yarn, so was I, after my drum lesson! What a coincidence, hm? It’s Regia Jubilee colour. I almost bought two balls of Regia’s cotton colour, in a similar pink colourway, but I went with this one instead. I also picked up some needles. The one I’m doing this sock on is by Garnstudio DROPS (“for det perfekte resultat!”), a 2.5 mm bamboo circular. The needles are great – the tips are nice and long, with good pointy tips. I find the tips on some needles, like Addi Turbos, too short for the way I knit and as a result give me hand cramps (never good). So these are perfect. I also picked up a 3.5 mm bamboo circ, Kertzer’s “Collection” needles. I’ve used the Collection double points and liked them, so hopefully the circular will be as good.

Oh, and the sock – it’s just a basic top-down sock (although I’m a fan of the toe-up, I didn’t have a pattern or anything and wanted to get started) on 72 sts. Unfortunately the gauge/number thing isn’t really working out for the patterning. I’ve got nice patterning on parts of the sock, but not everywhere. It’s ok though, I still think they look awesome. It’ll be a normal heel flap/gusset thing, with numbers from the Knitter’s Handy Book of Patterns (again, love that book!).

Maybe I just need a break from the big projects for awhile.

  • hemming, hawwing

I’m finally feeling a bit better, although I’ve still got coughs and a sniffy nose. Not a hell of a lot of knitting happening, but here’s what’s going on…

A shot of the red and white scarf I started last week – not entirely sure I like the blocks of colour (it’ll be white-red-white-red-white), but it’s still soft and snuggly! And quick, too.

Oh, and I started Mariah. Best shot I could manage, for some weird reason…

I’m using the Peruvian Collection Highland Wool from Elann, and the little cables in the ribbing aren’t popping very well. I hope the cabling on the sleeves shows more – those are against more reverse stockinette, so I’m just hoping for the best. I don’t really want to buy more yarn for this.

Let’s see, what else…the back of the Must Have is finally blocking, but the fronts will need to be blocked separately (I just don’t have any space). I’m taking the finishing pretty slow on that one – since I still don’t have buttons, there’s no need to rush.

I’ve been thinking I need some tall socks! Cari’s are gorgeous. I was contemplating making some with the Fleece Artist merino I brought home at Christmas, but that would just take forever. Plus, I don’t think I want to make them wool…I want to be able to wear them when it’s warmer, too. That brings me to Elann’s Esprit Print, their Fixation ripoff. It stripes, and I quite like the “Shades of Grey” colourway.

I still haven’t gotten my package from redbirdknits yet. I’m getting worried. I’ll give Canada Post a few more days, though.

  • slowly emerging

I went to see a doctor yesterday, and was given a cough suppressant (an “antitussive”) which helped me wake up only once last night, rather than the every two hours the night before. Thank goodness. I’m feeling a wee bit better today, which is good because now I’ve got a ton of stuff to catch up on!

Still not much knitting going on, but I did start a scarf out of that Cashmere Luxury stuff the other day, in mistake rib. And I printed off the pattern for Mariah, so I hope to start that soon. Still gotta finish up the Must Have, though…perhaps today I have the energy (or just the sheer will) to block the pieces, or at least the body pieces so I can get the buttonband and collar done.

Oh, and I finally did the whole bloglines thing, so y’all can subscribe by clicking the button over there on the right. I’ve got it set right now to syndicate the whole post, is that what people prefer?
