Well, I don’t have any photos today because my sister is using the camera for a project, but I do have progress to report – the Silk Garden cardi is done and currently taking a bath, and the second red sock is up past the heel turn. Pictures tomorrow. So naturally, I’m thinking about new projects.

    Here’s the (rather long) queue:
    1) Phildar jacket (still haven’t received the yarn yet)
    2) Rebecca Apricot Jacket, in red Cotton-Ease
    3) a raglan cardigan that I’ve got an idea for…in black Cotton-Ease
    4) Gibson Girl pullover
    5) socks – cotton ones (Making Waves, Merino Lace Socks, Retro Rib, all from IK)
    6) T-shirt in Elann Esprit (getting more into the hotter months here)
    7) top in Schachenmayer Aurora
    8) Chickamis

I’ve also decided to make “Sideways Spencer” (sooner rather than later) by Annie Modesitt, from the Fall 2004 IK – damn, that was a good issue!

I’ll use some modifications a la Bonne Marie, and I’m going to do it in Cotton Fleece, in an olive colour that doesn’t seem to be listed on their website. Here’s the thing – I’ve had the 6 remaining skeins at the store put aside for me, but I’m worried that it won’t be enough. The pattern calls for the equivalent of 5 skeins, and I’ll be adding quite a bit of length. I might hold off until we get a new order of Cotton Fleece, and that way I’ll be sure to have enough.

This is how much sock I got out of one ball of Koigu Kersti:

I was a bit afraid to try it on, because I knit all that at school today and it might’ve been too small…but I just tried it on and it fits great! Heel in the heel place and all. I put that sock on a spare circ (the evil circ) so that I can do the other sock up to that point. Then I’ve got one more ball to divide between both socks – I was hoping for over-the-calf socks, but we’ll have to see. It’s just about four inches on each sock that I’d have to do, but factor in maybe one or two increases and ribbing, and I’m cutting it pretty close. We’ll see.

Here’s some progress on the Monk’s Travel Satchel, which has travelled from home to school and back again many, many times. It will continue to travel that route many, many, many more times.

I’m done the front and the back/flap, and I’m starting the dreaded gusst/strap – 77″ of seed stitch. In cotton.

The second sleeve of the Corset Pullover is progressing slowly. I realized why the lace at the bottom of the sleeve seemed so slow – it’s 96 stitches around! Then it decreases to a much more manageable 48 stitches before increasing back up again. It’s going a little faster now that I’m on the twisted rib.

That’s it for now! Have a good Friday!

Argh! It’s down to the crunch, in terms of school and all that. So very many things to do..

I received my package from Camilla Valley Farm – two cones of 8/8 cotton, 1 pound of 4/8 mercerized cotton.

Unfortunately, the brown isn’t what I was hoping for so I’m going to return it for another colour (and I got the shade cards, so now I can actually see the colours!).

    But it’s all about scale:

A 1/3 lb cone of mercerized cotton next to my standard-size organic goat’s milk lip balm. Tiny, eh? I wasn’t expecting that, but so long as the yardage is correct, it’s a-ok!

Apparently Stephanie’s delusion about the proportions of one’s feet and where the heel and toe are in relation to each other is contagious, because

See the needle there? Yeah, I’d started making the heel. Hrmph. Anyway, I ripped it back, and did a heel based on the pattern “Priscilla’s Dream Socks” but it kind of looked like crap.

Although I’m surprised that my camera even managed to capture such a close view, it doesn’t really show how the heel looked – the yos created really loose stitches. So I ripped again, and did a short-row heel with wraps – it looks much better. So now I can finally get moving on the rest of the sock.
