Blurb: TERRITORY is a cozy, stylish pullover with a pretty, easy slip-stitch colourwork pattern. It looks complex, but you’ll only be working with one colour at a time! The Frieze pattern is echoed on the cuffs, while the rest of the long set-in sleeves offset the patterned body with simple Stockinette. The pieces are worked flat from the bottom up, and seamed before adding the ribbed collar. I’ve used a surprising hot pink for the contrast colour on the back, for an update to a classically styled sweater. Shown in size 41″ with no ease.

I’ve loved this slip-stitch colourwork pattern for ages – it looks so complex, but it’s really very easy and fast to work. You only use 1 colour at a time – no stranding. For a bit of a switch-up on an otherwise straightforward pullover, I knit the back of the sweater with a super bright contrasting pink! I love pink and grey – well, okay, I love any colour with grey really. I think it would look fantastic with a striping/colour-changing yarn for the contrast.

The yarn I used, Cascade 220 Sport, is inexpensive and very nice to work with – pleasantly wooly, but not too scratchy. And it comes in tons of colours! I’ve had this sweater done since the spring (the end of the never-ending winter?) so I haven’t had a chance to wear it yet, but I think it’s going to go just great with my fall leggings and skirts. I hope you like it too!

  • Harrisville Designs Fall 2014: Grantham

Harrisville Designs’ Fall collection is out, and I have two sweater patterns in it! Check out the lookbook here.

For my second sweater with Harrisville, I designed a simple pullover with an asymmetrical hem, V-neck, and long sleeves.

Official blurb: The Grantham Pullover is a flattering sweater featuring an asymmetrical hem and simple V-neck. The back is worked with slipped stitches that highlight the subtle darted waist shaping, and the long sleeves begin with an I-cord cast on that is echoed in the attached I-cord neck edging. Harrisville’s Silk & Wool is light and soft, with a fun nubbly texture.

Grantham is knit in pieces and seamed.

I wish I was in the woods at a beautiful cabin like this one right now!

    Here’s my original sketch.

    slanted pullover

Originally, I was going to just have the front be slanted and the back hem straight across, but that evolved to have both the front and back be shaped. The Silk & Wool is really nice and light, perfect if you overheat a lot like me!

Here it is on my dressform.

  • Harrisville Designs Fall 2014: Brentwood

Yay! Harrisville Designs’ Fall collection is out, and I have not one but TWO sweater patterns in it! Check out the whole lookbook here.

Official blurb: Brentwood is a cozy, tunic length cardigan that’s easy to knit with deep ribbed edges, textured stitch pattern and sailor collar. Deep pockets and long sleeves ensure this is one sweater you’ll live in this fall! Full disclosure: I didn’t knit this sample. Mari asked if I thought I could swing 2 designs for this collection, and although I was up for the math and writing, my wrists weren’t quite up to the task! So I asked my bestest buddy Denny to knit the sample for me. She did an amazing job, of course. I did knit the pockets, since I decided to add them later on in the process.

And here’s my swatch – the Seersucker stitch is easy, just knit and purl, and is lovely and squishy.

I managed to get a few photos on my dressform before I sent off the sweater for a different perspective. Random aside: I tried to change the size of my dressform today and none of the dials would move at all. I guess it’s going to remain rather smaller than me for the time being!

The colour is difficult to capture, but it’s such a lovely deep green with yellow undertones. Harrisville’s Highland has so much depth from combining different colours of fibres. It’s definitely a wooly-wool, but I love the sturdiness – it really feels like it would hold up forever. The skeins are nice and big, with 200 yards each, and quite affordable as well.
