  • sssssshhh. Quiet Study Area.

Well, I did finally finish up that Rowanspun jacket. It even blocked out really nice:

(Please ignore electric guitar sticking out in the corner. Or, think I’m cool because of it. Either way is fine with me!)

The applied icord – what I figured out finally was that I was picking up the wrong part of the stitch to SKP. Whoops. I’d already done the left front and around the collar when I figured it out, so a quick snip at the top of the left front, an unravelling, a reknit and a graft later, all was well.

Thing is it’s just … meh.

Not terrible, to be sure; I love the colour and the sleeves are really awesome. The fabric came together really nicely after a good soak, and I really like the way the whole thing looks. On the floor.

There’s a problem with one of the sleeve caps; it doesn’t really sit properly (although it’s not really ALL that bad). And while sometimes I like it when trying it on (say, with jeans) I think I have come to the conclusion that it’s simply too big. In the shoulders, definitely. The body’s ok now that it’s been stretched lengthwise.

So, I suppose I’ll just have to walk away from it for a bit. Maybe this is one of those cases where you just need to find it again in a few weeks and go, “hey, this is awesome! why aren’t I wearing this?” Although in a few weeks, it’ll be hotter than Hades around here. Maybe in the fall.

Meanwhile, I’m hard at work on a paper for school. I did manage to get the other front of VBC started; maybe I’ll be able to chip away at it for the next little while and have another finished sweater.

T.H. Huxley and Wool Cotton. Sigh. Can you figure out which one I like more?

P.S. A few new skeins – the ones I’ve been showing here – will be up for sale soon. Tomorrow, I think. Keep an eye out.

  • just a wee update

Finished – the left front of VBC. I keep trying to cast on for the other front (the last piece!) but I keep getting distracted; I think it’s the fact that I actually need to sit down and do it, and there’s some chart and some row counting involved. Ain’t got the faculty for that right now.

Mostly I’ve been working on socks. Those three socks from a previous post, although they haven’t even progressed very far.

    How about some new skeins?

Purple is fleece artist merino/silk 2ply, orange is navajo-plied merino for Denny, grey is fleece artist merino. Love those charcoals!

And I figured out what was going wrong with the applied icord on the Rowanspun jacket (and fixed it). Stay tuned…

  • yeah, my photos kinda suck

So hard to capture those reds, you know? Plus it’s all tweedy and confuses my camera. I went back to find the photo I took of the Rowanspun yarn when I got it back in December –

That’s pretty accurate on my monitor. Deep burgundy-red, with flecks of orange and bright red. Kind of purpley. I haven’t moved at all on finishing that jacket, but I think I’ve decided to take the timid route and go all one colour. Soon, soon.

I am so sleepy from all the running around I’ve been doing. Coming soon – socks. Maybe even another almost-sweater.
