  • Currently On My Needles

I cast on a few new projects to take with me to Rhinebeck! Of course, I have more WIPs (works in progress) than just these, but most of those are currently in time-out…

I’ve been loving all the swingy, fun tunic tops that have been available lately. They’re perfect to wear with leggings (long enough to cover one’s behind…if you’re kinda short like me), boots, and handknit sweaters! When I was considering yarns for a handknit tunic dress, I knew it needed to be knit up in something fairly lightweight to help it keep its shape and not be too heavy or warm. Elspeth Lavold’s Silky Wool is one of the lightest yarns I know of in a DK weight, with about 190 yards per 50g. I love the tweedy colours and pebbly texture, too. This one is worked from the top down with a v-neck, and I’ve got a few details floating around to add to it (big one: pockets).

I’ve been wearing my Ashworth Scarf a ton – nothing beats cashmere for lightness and warmth! I’ve had this Jade Sapphire grey cashmere for awhile, and I love it held together with the black Jaggerspun merino/silk. I want this bias-knit wrap to be nice and big!

    koigu-cuff-sm

My crazy colourwork sweater has been stagnating, but I’m determined to get it done to wear this winter – I’m almost up the armholes on the body. I started a sleeve to carry around with me, but it hasn’t seen much action lately either.

    entrelac-samples-sm

I’m teaching at a retreat in Prince Edward County with Rosehaven Yarn Shop next weekend, so I’m also working up some new samples! Entrelac is fun. The gradient sample is knit flat in Eco wool, and the cowl is worked in the round in some scraps of Cascade 220.

What’s on your needles this Halloween weekend?

  • Fall Designs All Over!

A load of the designs I worked on this spring and summer are being released!

    rail-yard-1

Rail Yard is FREE PATTERN for a cozy, cabley cardigan featuring awesome chain-link cables and a double-thick collar. It’s worked in Lorna’s Laces Cloudgate, a new multi-plied superwash bulky merino – so plush! Check out the Deep Fall Issue of Knitty!

    rail-yard-3

The body of Rail Yard is worked in one piece from the bottom to the shoulders. The long set-in sleeves are worked flat and seamed in. Oh, and regarding hanging out by the train tracks – the road and sidewalks go over the tracks here and there’s long visibility in both directions, so I didn’t feel unsafe. Someone that lived in a house next to the tracks thought we were there to photograph the train ;)

Check out the Deep Fall Issue of Knitty.

You may have heard Laurie from Feel Good Yarn Company this week on the Woolful podcast. I’ve designed two sweaters in their SilverSpun Sport, a really cool cotton-nylon-spandex-silver that has tons of stretch and feels like terry cloth when knit up.

Ayden is a bottom-up, seamless raglan cardigan with deep garter rib edgings and a long sailor collar. FGYC is also offering kits with a discount on the yarn.

Belwood is a scoop neck pullover that features an easy texture pattern on the front and back, stockinette panels at the sides for easy shaping, and long ribbed sleeves. The body is worked in the round from the bottom up, then split for the upper body. The sleeves are worked in the round to the cap, then back and forth for the cap before being seamed in.

    Whew! I’ve been busy!

Westley is a low-key but still polished cardigan featuring a deep V-neck and gradually flared ribbing. It’s worked in Harrisville’s flyWHEEL, which is a really lovely plied wool with lots of body and awesome heathery colours. Knit seamlessly from the top down.

Check out all of Harrisville’s Autumn 2015 Designs!

The Cobbled Wrap & Scarf from Solitude Wool uses 2 colours of their awesome small-batch Coopworth Sport, one solid and one multi. The easy garter stitch and lace pattern is worked lengthwise, and naturally biases to create a fun parallelogram shape.
