Hoo boy. I have so much work, and I’m feeling a bit overwhelmed.

So what do I do? Knit knit knit! (Although I am trying to kind of cut down by forcing myself to take notes and actually, you know, study.)

I finished one sleeve of Katy, and I’ll cast on for the other tonight so I can knit the ribbing on the subway ride down to school. I used the sloped bind-off for this, which rocks. See the tail of yarn there (it ends just at the edge of the photo)? That was the end of the skein! Lucky.

More sleeves – almost done the second Simply Autumn sleeve, just a few more rounds to go.

Very little progress on the first of the Vera knee socks. Knee socks on size 0’s? What was I thinking?

At any rate, they should be faster once I get sort of established in what I’m doing with the shaping, because right now I need to knit and calculate at home. When I can take it with me, then there should be some progress! At this rate though, it’ll be cold before I can actually wear them.

Cloud is done, washed, dried in the machine (really firmed it up, which is great) and isn’t too big! It’s a little loose, but that’s okay. Probably modelled pics tomorrow, if I can get my head outta the books for a minute.

  • plus and minus

Plus: Pictures of the finished Irving Park socks! They’re great.

    Irving Park socks
Pattern: basic sock, 64 stitches on US0 (2 mm) Clover dpn
Yarn: Lorna’s Laces Shepherd Sock, Irving Park
    Started: September 20, 2005
    Finished: October 1, 2005

Plus: the v-neck of Cloud is perfect.

Plus: I cast on for two more pairs of socks, the Vera knee socks (oy…these are going to take awhile) and some Knitpicks ones for class knitting.

Minus: crappy nighttime indoor photos in this post. Sorry.

Minus: I put Cloud in the dryer for awhile, then took it out while still a bit damp and laid it flat to dry. Bad news is it’s almost 20″ across, so a 40″ chest – I was aiming for 35″, although I knew as I was knitting it that it was going to be bigger than that. I’d hoped for about 37-38″, but there you go. It’ll probably still be wearable anyway, but meh. I’m REALLY not ripping it.

Somewhere in between: I’m firmly on the beach of Sleeve Island, as I’m working the second sleeve of Simply Autumn and still the first sleeve of Katy. Where’s my cocktail?

  • cable-licious

Not all that much going on here – that university education takes up a lot of time, dangit!

I’m about 8.5″ up the back of Katy – I’m lengthening the body for sure, as I don’t think 12.25″ is long enough to the underarm shaping! I’m contemplating making the armhole longer too, but that involves looking at the cap shaping on the sleeves…well, I’ll think about it. It’s working up really nicely in the Cotton Fleece – I don’t know if I’d want something bulkier for this. And everything but the cabling row is pretty mindless, and therefore quick!

I finished the first Irving Park sock already – yeah, I know, that was fast even for me! I’m really getting into the subway knitting thing, as I used to just sleep on that 30 minute ride. Although…this morning I tried to knit but decided to rest me eyes instead. At any rate, knitting on the subway is occurring.

I did what I thought was a pretty long cuff on the first sock, and it turned out a nice length considering the maximum stretch of the cast-on, but I’ve got tons of yarn left over.

See the start of the second sock there? That’s still the first ball of yarn! For my next Lorna’s Laces pair (in the “Vera” colourway), I’m going to do knee socks, top down. I’ll see how much mileage I get out of the rest of the first skein on these ones and extrapolate from there. Oh, and I think I’ll go down to 60 stitches for the next sock; although these are great, they could be snugger.

I’ve started the second sleeve of Cloud finally, and I hope to have the entire thing done this weekend!
