  • the truth comes out

In a comment to my last post, grumperina said this:

It’s remarkable that your Lorna’s Laces socks always stripe so nicely! I wonder how you do it?!?

Well….I don’t. Here’s what you didn’t see in that last picture of the knee socks:

See those big green blobs? Yep, pooling. Fortunately, it only occurred during a short period in which I had, let’s see…between 84 and 68 stitches, at a gauge of 8 stitches per inch. So there ya go. Other than that, I’ve just been lucky!

As you can see, I’ve gotten farther along on the second sock – I’m just past the heel. After all that leg, 7.5 inches of stockinette on 60 stitches should go pretty darn quick, methinks.

And for those that were wondering what pattern I’m using – it’s my own, customized to fit my, er, generous calves. I could have made them smaller at the top, too (I subtracted 20% from my measurements) but I’m going to find some elastic to put in them there cuffs.

  • always take notes

So you don’t need to do what I had to do to figure out what I did on this sock.

The second vera knee sock is finally underway, and moving pretty quickly. I hope to finish them this week, plus at least one other project from the WIP list.

For those that wondered – the merino roving was from R.H. Lindsay. If you order a full bump (which I did) you get free shipping within the US – lucky you, I had to go through a whole roundabout thing to get it here without horrible taxes and shipping charges.

  • now what?

I ran out out of yarn for my Vera knee sock and I’m not even at the toe yet – still the better part of an inch to go. D’oh. Looking through my sock yarn, it doesn’t really look like I have much that’ll go, either…there’s black Palette, but it’s a bit scratchy. I could dye some “Color your own” merino, but that takes time. I think I might have enough of a grey cotton-blend yarn to do it, and that’s seeming like the leader.

Maybe I should put it aside and thinking about it for a few days.

Anyway…here’s a shot of one of the big hexagons from the koigu skirt, compared to the little ones I’ve already done.

ETA: I caved and ordered more yarn from redbirdknits. The grey looked like crap and I’m going to need more yarn for both, so why not…and why not throw in some Fleece Artist sock too? Whoops.
