  • FO: Laceweight Bestellen Shawl

I started this laceweight version of my Bestellen Shawl pattern not long after I finished the original fingering weight version, but it was pushed to the wayside (aka the bottom of a works-in-progress basket) for awhile there. I picked it back up last week and finished it off to give as a birthday gift!

The yarn is madelinetosh prairie, which is a wool laceweight single. The colour is super hard to capture! I think it was Forestry? Just right for a birthday gift on St. Patrick’s Day!

I didn’t make any modifications to the pattern other than knitting it on 3.5mm needles and extending the bottom ribbing by a few rows to use up more yarn. It’s a good size, and the recipient put it on right away ;)

Perfectly lightweight for spring! The Bestellen Shawl pattern is available on Ravelry here.

Reading: The Jenna Fox Chronicles. I actually really loved all three books!

  • Bulky, Cozy, Quick Winter Brunch Shawl!

This shawl FLEW off the needles! I don’t knit with a ton of bulky yarn, but this Malabrigo Mecha really spoke to me. There are some seriously awesome colours. I knit this one up in just a few days, and it is so soft and cozy. Too bad I didn’t have it done last weekend when I was actually waiting outside in the freezing cold for brunch! I’m really happy with how the photos turned out, too.

    Winter Brunch Shawl

The blurb: Looking for a quick project to keep you warm this winter? This super cozy shawl works up so quickly in bulky yarn, you’ll hardly believe it! Winter Brunch is a simple top- down elongated triangle with increases worked at the edges every row for a nice shape that’ll sit around your shoulders over or under your coat. The lattice edging is easy to knit with fun large lace holes. I recommend working the simple two stitch cable crosses without a cable needle – it’s a great way to learn.

The shawl begins at the back neck in stockinette, with increases at the edges every row (and the center every RS row). The directions for the lattice edging are given in both chart and row-by-row form. It’s a perfect new project for a snowy weekend!

  • it’s a monday

First of all, thanks for the awesome reception of my new patterns, Tiverton and Innisfil!. I’m really happy to be self-publishing again, and I’ve even got a couple more things nearly ready to go. It might be March but there’s still a lot of snow and ice on the ground here. I can alllllmost feel the hint of spring in the air, but my many layers and down coat say otherwise. The change to Daylight Savings on the weekend will be nice for more light in the evenings, although the time change always throws me for a loop.

I’ve pretty much been on vacation this last week, but that means I’ve gotten lots of knitting done! I’m working on a top-down triangular shawl that’s nearly done, but boy those last few rows are loooong.

    March 4

Out for a walk the other day I went into a yarn shop and “accidentally” purchased a sweater’s worth of yarn. Whoops! The good thing is I’ve already cast on and I’m loving it.

    March 2

This sweater is actually one that’s been out in the world for awhile – Sheepcote from Twist Collective! The sample I knit for the magazine was * ahem * considerably smaller than I am, so I’m knitting another one for myself. I’m using Manos Silk Blend, and so far I’m having a great time – it’s so nice to knit something and not have to be doing math and writing notes all the time! Plus I’ll have something to blog about.

Reading: Shades of Earth by Beth Revis. I have some issues with this series (character and writing) but the story is enjoyable and engrossing.
Watching: The Walking Dead, season 1.
No wonder I’m having post-apocalyptic dreams lately!
