  • whew, the excitement!

I just wanted to thank you all for your kind comments on the skirt! It would’ve been a lot faster, I know, if I’d actually concentrated on working on it – each of the smallest hexagons took about and hour, and the largest ones about one and a half to two hours each, and there were 27 hexagons in total. But it was my snack knitting, something I nibbled at for and hour or two during lectures, on the subway…Now I just need to find the right undergarments: thick tights and maybe a black slip with a lace hem for an extra layer.

Anyway, onward and upward! I’ve been working like mad on the pressies (and uh, a sweater for me). I’m currently completely done 3 projects, save blocking – the harry potter scarf for my sister, the cabled gauntlets for my cousin, and the socks for my other sister.

    Currently in progress:
    – robot 1 of 2 has a front and two arms, so just the back and I’m good to go;
    – fiery bolero is currently sitting my lap. I’m just at the point where the fronts divide, so the body knitting should be done soon. Picking up all those stitches though, that’s going to be a bitch.
    – pasha is a pile of penguin parts, which need to be washed before assembly – the black Andean Silk that I used bled all over.

    Still to do:
    – robot 2 of 2 – will probably be faster than the first one
    – a pair of felted clogs
    – something for grandparents – still no idea what
    – wine bottle cozy. and I need to locate the wine I want to buy to put in it.

According to Stephanie’s stages of holiday knitting, I’m still in stage 2 – I can do it, it’ll be fine, I just need to work at it.

If it weren’t for those pesky exams. Hmmmm.

I’d better get back to knitting.

  • lab report from Hell

That’s what kept me from posting for so long – but it’s done and printed (on scrap paper – it’s for an environmental class) and I don’t have to do except knit. And uh, study for exams.

No photos today, alas; but I have been working on things! Koigu skirt, titbits, a little birthday present for the Other, and I’ve also started Debbie Bliss’ fiery bolero for my mom’s Christmas present. Since it’s black stockinette though, it’s not very exciting – especially the looong purl rows.

I also finally got my hands on a copy of Jess Hutchison’s supercute book, so I’m hoping to start some cool softies soon!

I’ll have more in a day or two – stay warm!

  • what have I gotten myself into??

I’ll get to the title stuff in a minute. First up, some finished yarns – these are the last of some corriedale that I dyed up a while back, and finished spinning a little while ago.

I loooove this red/purple/brown combo. It actually came out quite soft, so I’m sort of contemplating some socks out of it.

    Yellow/blue/green. Also very cool.

Here’s both, plus a skein from a couple months ago. I think I want to do something with all of them – but what?? Suggestions welcome!

And here’s a shot of bpt. See the front cables? They sure don’t match the directions of the ones in the photo. I don’t know what gives, but something is wrong with the order of the cable crosses. Oh well, it’s fine.

Mmmmmkay. So. It’s 2/3 of the way through November and I’m just NOW getting requests for knitted Christmas gifts. I’d planned a few already, but now my family’s asking for stuff! Stuff that I need to buy yarn for! Stuff such as a garment! Stuff in cotton, because they won’t wear wool!

    The List:
mom: a black cotton shrug (the fiery bolero from the summer Interweave in either Elann Connemara or TLC Cotton Plus
    dad: dunno
sister #1: Gryffindor scarf – will be inaccurate, which is fine with her. I was thinking TLC Cotton Plus in red and gold. HP-ers, what do you think?
sister #2: socks (already in progress, and that was already planned) and a black earflap hat
    auntie E: felted wool clogs
auntie J: dunno yet, must be cotton
    girl cousin #1: Pasha!
girl cousin #2: cabled armwarmers in leftover Cotton Fleece
boy cousins 1 and 2: some kind of toy from Jess Hutchison’s booklet – I’m thinking robots, from stash yarn

ETA: I dug around in the stash and came up with a ball of that red TLC stuff, and yeah, it’s too bright red. I did find a suitable one though, in Butterfly cotton, so all I need is some gold and I’m gold!

How many of these are done? NONE.

    I need me some 1-877-SOS-KNIT.
