I got tagged by a bunch of people…I guess that means I should do it!

Each person tagged gives 7 random facts about themselves. Those tagged need to write in their blogs 7 facts, as well as the rules of the game. You need to tag seven others and list their names on your blog. You have to leave those you plan on tagging a note in their comments so they know that they have been tagged and need to read your blog. The facts:

    1. I love sleeping under a lot of blankets – I currently have two comforters and one down duvet. Oh, and I have to have my arms underneath the covers when I’m trying to fall asleep.

    2. When I was little, I drank lots of milk and juice, and very little (if any) water. Now I drink tons of water and very little juice (and even less milk).

    3. I prefer non-breakfast foods for breakfast and the breakfast foods for later – I’ll have rice in the morning and eggs for dinner.

    4. I have my nose pierced but not my ears.

    5. I’m addicted to lip balm and feel all antsy when I don’t have one on me – usually Burt’s Bees.

    6. I find it very annoying that people are continually asking me what I’m going to “do with my life” now that I’m done university. Can’t I have a summer off first?? Also, did you know exactly what you were going to be immediately after university (and stick with it)? At least I currently have design and retail jobs. I’ll work it out. In the meantime…please stop asking.

    7. I am lacto-ovo vegetarian, and I LOVE food. Reading food blogs makes me drool, especially anything to do with cheese or dessert. I’m very glad that I have a partner who shares my love of food…and encourages me to bike and exercise so I don’t weigh a million pounds!

So that’s that. I actually could’ve written many, many more random things about myself! I’m not going to tag anyone else, and since I haven’t posted for a few days, this is going to be an extra long one!

I started a tank project out of the Blue Heron Rayon Metallic that I got from the Frolic –

Unfortunately it’s looking like I won’t have enough yarn to do the cross-front like I wanted. I’ve started the back, and then I’m going to go back and redo the front as just a very deep v. I’m hoping to have it done by the cruise (which leaves on the 27th) but I dunno.

I love the woven stitch in the metallic yarn!

And here’s some more handspun that I’m particularly in love with – Fleece Artist Wool/Silk, spun up as a 2ply.

Gotta get packing! I leave tomorrow, early – we’re flying out from Buffalo, so we’ve got to drive down there first. I’ll definitely be posting next week from Austin, and quite possibly a quick note from the boat. You can check my Flickr page if you like to see what I’m up to – I’m more likely to dump the photos in there and write posts later.

    Whoa! I’m going on vacay!

  • goin’ on a big boat

I am completely infatuated, must make it NOW obsessed with the Stitch Diva Hairpin Lace Skirt.

I’ve got a slight step up on the technique, anyway – I’ve seen Denny do it! And I know how to single crochet, too. I am totally going to make it for my trip.

Trip? Yep, I’m a-goin’ away, in a little less than a month, for two weeks. It’ll be the longest vacation (as in, away from home) that I’ve been on in more than five years – I stopped going with my parents and sisters on their summer vacations (usually to Florida) in favour of staying home in a nice big house by myself.

This year, though, there’s a different plan: my sister and I shall fly down to Texas on the 20th of May, where we will stay with my cousins in Austin for about a week doing fun things – it sure looks like a fun place!

Then my parents will fly down and we’ll board a Big Boat for a western caribbean cruise – Jamaica, the Caymans and Cozumel. I’m a bit apprehensive about the boat part (and the plane part, for that matter) but I’m sure it’ll be lots of fun. And there’s lots of cousins the same age to hang out with. It’s going to be a bit insane – there’s 24 people in our party! We even have a minibus booked for the trip from Houston to the port in Galveston.

Anyway. That long winded description of the trip = need new hairpin skirt. This brings me to a related point: since I have decided that Maryland isn’t going to fly (REALLY can’t afford to go by myself, plus I wouldn’t be able to drive once there…so yeah, also, can’t find anyone else to go with) I have decided that I can spend whatever the hell I want at the Frolic on Saturday.

    Important math:
    a) I will spend hundreds of dollars less at the Frolic than I would at Maryland.
    b) I’ll be working, and therefore will have less time to spend walking around and spending money (although I’ll be sure to get enough time in there!)
    and
    c) since I’ll be working, that’ll offset a bit of the spending.

    Not math, but:
    d) I’ve made a list of stuff I want, which includes some kind of swishy drapey ribbon yarn (so not me yarn) for the skirt.

Gotta go spin the water out of that completed sweatercoat!

Some tidbit of a post is better than none, no? I’ve taken photos of various things in progress, but no time/energy to upload and tinker with them at the moment.

(I can tell I’ve been working in Word a little much when I try to hit apple-S to save this post)

On the school front, I’m getting there. I’ve got one 20-page paper done for Tuesday, most of a linguistics assignment done for tomorrow (I need to go look at that soon and fix up the last little bit) and am working on another 10-pager for Tuesday, which is about halfway there but not going so great. Arghhhh.

I’m knitting a dress – I worked on it today while subway-ing down to the library. I’ve knit the bodice and am working on the skirt separately, then I’ll three-needle bind them off together. Problem is, I think I might be a bit short on the yardage for the skirt. I’m using Southwest Trading Company Beyond, which is definitely discontinued, possibly not even really released widely? I only got 4″ of skirt out of one ball. I only have four total to do the skirt.

In an effort to get more fabric, I’m going to up the needle size each ball – it’ll give the skirt a bit of a flare, and stretch the yardage. I need at least 16″ of skirt to be decent (which yes, I should get) so I’m really hoping this’ll work. Otherwise I suppose I could make a contrast hem or something.

Okay. Enough with the stalling…I’m so close!
