  • black, grey, stripes

Just bound off this plain black shawl – just a top-down triangle in stockinette, with a seed stitch border. Needs a good blocking to open up, but doesn’t it look so cozy? It’s some cashmere that I bought a few Rhinebecks ago (too bad black is so hard to photograph).

    caaaaashmere

Also in hard to photograph things, black and grey ombre stripe socks with some Lana Grossa sock yarn. Also very plain, but meditative.

    black and grey

On the other end of the coloury spectrum, some super bright handspun!

    stripey!

This is 100g, 210 yds or so of 3-ply (so, a worsted weight). The fiber is BFL from Into the Whirled, and it was awesome to spin. It isn’t that apparent from the hank, but this yarn should be pretty stripey.

    stripey!

What else have I been up to?
Watching: Continuum. I really liked it and wish there was more already!

  • orange socks

I can’t believe it’s already near the middle of August. I’m happy that fall is coming (this summer has been horrendously hot!), but the summer has just flown by. I’m knitting a ton of sweaters right now and hopefully I’ll be able to share them with you sooner rather than later.

I’ve had this skein of Socks that Rock lightweight wound into a cake forever, and wouldn’t you know it, I lost the ball band. So I have no idea what colourway it is. I remember that I wanted to buy Oregon Red Clover Honey, but I know I ended up with that one in mediumweight, not lightweight. I want to say it’s Muckity Muck, but I could be totally wrong.

    socks

Plain but satisfying. 68 sts on 2.25mm needles, 3×1 ribbing for the leg and top of the foot. Good, quick, fun socks. And with just a tiny bit left over.

    socks

I’m off to Halifax on vacation this week. Stay cool!

  • ripping, ripping, ripping

It’s been a rather unproductive long weekend. I started a crochet sunhat out of a single skein of Euroflax linen, only to have to rip it out about five times because it sucked!

    crocheting with linen

    The beginning went okay.

    crappy hat

    Too big.

    crappy hat

    Too ruffley.

    hat/bowl

    Too small!

I think I might fiiiinally have hit on the right combo. Needs a wash, then we’ll see. My knitting hasn’t really been behaving either – I had an idea that I tried to sketch and swatch out, but I don’t think I can actually do it except for at full size (and the swatches didn’t look very good either). And I’ve been working on a cabled pullover with lovely O-Wool Legacy DK, but I’ve had to rip out the back a bunch of times too!

    finally on track

I think I’m finally back on track. Of course, with this heatwave (40C/100F with humidex!) I might just make a few more batches of ice cream instead of knitting.
