Feb 1 - coconut cream pie

I made a delicious coconut cream pie a couple weekends ago – it was a big hit! I used a can of coconut milk in place of the whole milk in the filling. It kind of turned a bit grey when I was cooking it, but whatever. It was soooo good.

    February 5 - plying

Finished plying up a pound of merino/seacell blend that I’d been working on for AGES! It’s a 2-ply and maybe about 1800 yards. I have no idea what I’m going to do with it, but it is quite soft and pretty. Maybe I’ll have it dyed.

    February 11 - take two

Working on a new sample of an older pattern that I completely wrote up but never released. This one is in Zen Yarn Garden superwash worsted, in Moon Purple. I haven’t had a purple sweater in ages so it’s going to be great!

    February 10 - digging out

Digging out this weekend. We didn’t get as much as in the US, but still the biggest snowstorm in a few winters – we got 30cm (12″). It was a good excuse to hunker down with slow cooker stew, Boardwalk Empire, and a new jigsaw puzzle.

    February 4

My next sweater pattern release! I can’t wait to share it with you.

    WYCHWOOD SHAWL

Sometimes a bit of simple knitting is all you need. This top-down triangular shawl is perfectly light and warm, and works up quickly with little fuss. Great for adding a pop of colour all year round. Use any yarn you like, simply adjust the needle size – one or two sizes larger than the ball band recommendation will help you achieve a supple, not too dense fabric.

    Size
    One; 60” wingspan x 24” depth at center / 153 x 60cm

    Yarn
Laceweight yarn, held double throughout, 1300 yds / 1190m Shown in:
    » Jojoland Cashmere Laceweight (100% cashmere; 440 yds /
    400m per 1.75 oz / 50g skein), 3 skeins in Black
» sweetgeorgia yarns Merino Silk Lace (50% merino wool, 50% silk; 765 yds / 700m per 3.5 oz / 100g skein), 1 skein each in Riptide and Nightshade

    Needles and Notions
    » US 7 / 4.5mm circular needles, 32” / 80cm or longer
    » 2 stitch markers
    » tapestry needle

    Gauge
18 sts and 26 rows = 4” / 10cm square in Stockinette Stitch with two strands of yarn held together.
Gauge is not critical for this project, through a different gauge will result in a different finished size.

  • what I’m up to this week

I had a great weekend – mostly staying in, playing games, knitting, making food, relaxing. I’m trying to get into a good rhythm of working during the week so that I can have the relaxing weekends, and so far it’s going well. I got some (hopefully good) ideas and finished up some knitting.

    on the blocking towel

Since many of you asked, I will be releasing a pattern for the simple shawl that I posted about awhile ago. But since black isn’t really the most photogenic colour, I whipped up another sample to take some photos of. I knit this one start to finish in less than a week, and I hope to have the pattern out in just a few days. It really is the simplest pattern, but sometimes simple is just what you need.

Other yarns I’m working with this week:

28/365 - yarns of the week

Zen Yarn Garden Superwash Worsted, Quince & Co Chickadee, and Johanneshof Yarns Romney, a gift from Rhinebeck!
