  • two weeks

Um, yikes. Time’s going by rather alarmingly quickly, isn’t it?

    finally off the loom

This scarf has been on my rigid heddle loom (Ashford 24″) for months and months, since before I moved! It was even still in its plastic garbage bag under my desk until I decided this week that it was high time to finish it. And of course once I picked it up again, I was finished in 2 hours!

That led to warping the loom up again, and right now I have 2 scarves have their soak. The loom is empty just now, but I might even warp it up again tonight.

    ready for the wash

A knit I’m really excited by, but was putting off because it’s fiddly – Some Assembly Required. Personally I’m not really one for knitting very fiddly things, especially small fiddly things (I’m pretty game for complicated sweaters and things). Toys are pretty challenging for me just because there’s so much finishing and fiddling compared to the actual knitting! Give me a big swatch of stockinette any day.

That said, this is a pretty fun knit so far. I’ve only done the head, but I’m hoping to make a good dent in the torso-knitting this afternoon.

    lightbulb-head

Oh, and just in case someone out there needs a yummy recipe to bring to one of those numerous parties this time of year?

    twix-alike bars

Twix-alike bars! So good. The only changes I made were to add some sea salt to the caramel (probably about 1/2 to 3/4 tsp) and to cut the squares much, much smaller. Nom.

  • socks, socks

I actually really need to be knitting some of those French Press Felted Slippers right now since the lozenge pattern socks are off the needles!

    gentleman's sock with lozenge pattern

2 skeins of Austermann Royal and loosely based on Nancy Bush’s pattern from Knitting Vintage Socks. I did my cuff differently, subbed my own heel and toe, and did the whole sock on 70 sts.

Of course, I cast on for some more socks right away – I guess I’m kind of in sock mode now!

    alternating rib

I have such mad love for this sock right now – this leg was one afternoon/evening of knitting (at work and then a little bit at home). Based on another sock from Knitting Vintage Socks. I’m working this over 68 sts, in Dream in Color Smooshy. The colour is Shiny Moss and I LOVE it!

One thing I don’t love? Lenses that are picky about focusing. I went out into the rather cold weather (hovering around the freezing mark) in the hopes of getting some pattern photos for 2 sweaters.

I stayed out there for a good long while, toes getting colder and colder, and managed only a handful of useable shots – not even of the sweater that I really wanted to get photos of! (The red cabley one I’m wearing the photo). Sigh. The Sigma 30mm lens I love is kind of moody and wasn’t focusing properly with the remote, so I have a LOT of out of focus photos. Sigh. I guess I’ll have to just try again this week. Maybe with someone else as the model.

    annoyed

(More love to balance out the annoyed face – have you seen Dr. Steph’s Hansel mittens? I need some to go with my Gretel, and they look super fast and cozy!)

  • dipped infinity scarf kits!

Check this out – Tanis of Tanis Fiber Arts has put together some gorgeous kits for the Dipped Infinity Scarf! Each kit comes with enough of her beautiful fingering weight yarn for the project and a copy of the pattern as well. If you don’t see any in her Etsy store just at the moment, don’t worry – more are on their way!

On the gift knitting front, the second lozenge pattern sock is well past the heel so that should be done soon. And I’ve started another project, this one’s a request:

    more red (and yellow)

Can you tell by the colours? No?

    How about now?

    on the way

Yep, it’s a Harry Potter scarf (Prisoner of Azkaban style, of course) for my sister. She put in her request early so obviously I didn’t get started until just this week! Ha! I’m loving the yarn I’m using – Cascade Venezia worsted for the red, and Misti Alpaca worsted for the gold. I’ve got about four repeats done, maybe 8 to go.

But since this one won’t really be “due” until Christmas Day, I might need to get started on some other smallish gifties that need to be done before then! I’d better get knitting.
