  • sssssshhh. Quiet Study Area.

Well, I did finally finish up that Rowanspun jacket. It even blocked out really nice:

(Please ignore electric guitar sticking out in the corner. Or, think I’m cool because of it. Either way is fine with me!)

The applied icord – what I figured out finally was that I was picking up the wrong part of the stitch to SKP. Whoops. I’d already done the left front and around the collar when I figured it out, so a quick snip at the top of the left front, an unravelling, a reknit and a graft later, all was well.

Thing is it’s just … meh.

Not terrible, to be sure; I love the colour and the sleeves are really awesome. The fabric came together really nicely after a good soak, and I really like the way the whole thing looks. On the floor.

There’s a problem with one of the sleeve caps; it doesn’t really sit properly (although it’s not really ALL that bad). And while sometimes I like it when trying it on (say, with jeans) I think I have come to the conclusion that it’s simply too big. In the shoulders, definitely. The body’s ok now that it’s been stretched lengthwise.

So, I suppose I’ll just have to walk away from it for a bit. Maybe this is one of those cases where you just need to find it again in a few weeks and go, “hey, this is awesome! why aren’t I wearing this?” Although in a few weeks, it’ll be hotter than Hades around here. Maybe in the fall.

Meanwhile, I’m hard at work on a paper for school. I did manage to get the other front of VBC started; maybe I’ll be able to chip away at it for the next little while and have another finished sweater.

T.H. Huxley and Wool Cotton. Sigh. Can you figure out which one I like more?

P.S. A few new skeins – the ones I’ve been showing here – will be up for sale soon. Tomorrow, I think. Keep an eye out.

  • baby it’s hot outside

Not thinking as much about the wool today (although let’s face it, I’m all about the wool) – how about some cotton?

I sewed this super awesome circle skirt today, out of some fabric I’ve had around from *last* summer. Really, really easy and fast – would have taken less than 2 hours from start to finish if I hadn’t messed up the waistband the first time. It’s an elastic waistband, but the first casing I made was too small to fit over my hips; it was the right size if I’d done a zipper instead. But I persevered, and just added another piece to the waistband to make it fit.

It’s super swingy! I love that. Maybe next time not quite a full circle – three quarters, maybe. I’m feeling the sewing love now…bring on the fabric store!

What? You want knitting? I gots a bit of knitting, too:

That’s the first of the completed sleeves from the rowanspun jacket. The second one is juuuuust about done, then it’s time for some finishing. I’ve also been working on some commission stuff.

    (That isn’t complete, obviously.)

Transit on strike? Stay home from school and make a skirt! I certainly had fun.

  • hoo boy

I am freaking out about the two exams I have left – one on Monday night and one on Tuesday afternoon. So I probably won’t be around the next couple days! But today I’ve actually got a couple of FO’s…

First off, a longstanding project, the Whitby socks.

    Whitby socks
Pattern: “Whitby Socks” from Knitting on the Road by Nancy Bush
Yarn: Louet Gems Opal, 2 50 g skeins
    Needles: 2.5 mm bamboo circ
    Finished: May 5, 2006

Why’d these take so long? Fun, easy to remember pattern; pretty chunky, soft yarn – well, I was saving it to do at work, and I did do most of the knitting while I was there (and since I was only in one day a week, I wasn’t getting that much time in on them). If you counted the actual days I worked on this pair, it’d certainly be less than a week. They really are fast, I just took my time.

    The finished Dulaan raglan:

Cute sweater, super fast, and a stashbuster! I just hope it fits someone.

I made another hat, too – I was running out of both of the colours, so I just alternated them at the top.

And although I should really be spending about *all* of my time studying, I have done a wee bit of spinning as well (hey, gotta go something to unwind before bed). The white skein is one ply of merino and one ply of tussah, and is soooooo soft. I’ve got another skein of it done, too (slightly smaller skein). I think I shall dye it a slate grey-blue, perhaps. The one in back is the last skein spun up from the batts I got at the Frolic, a nice pinky-purpley-heathery colour.

    Have a good couple days! I know I uh…won’t.
