  • well, then

    I was going to post a bunch of new stuff to Etsy, only to find they’re in the middle of the upgrade (which I did know about, because I got an email!). If I’d posted last week like I said I would, I could’ve paid the before-upgrade fees rather than the new ones. D’oh. Oh well, I guess it’ll have to wait till Monday.

    So! FO!

    Super Silky Top-Down

    Pattern: my own; top-down raglan with seed stitch borders, v-neck and waist shaping; crocheted neck edge

    Yarn: my own (yay!);
    1 strand handspun worsted-weight Louet-dyed merino/silk (80/20) 2 ply in “Princess Blue”, about 500 yards;
    1 strand handspun fingering weight Fleece Artist dyed wool/silk (65/35) 2 ply, 640 yards.

    Needles: Denise US 11.

    Start to finish: less than a week!

    Fastest sweater ever! And no leftovers! I ended up finishing the body, then dividing each yarn into two equal balls for the sleeves. Continued on the sleeve with both yarns until I ran out of the worsted weight, then doubled the fingering weight for the last few inches of sleeve. Blends right in!

    It needed a good blocking – a nice soak evened everything out, and it grew a bit which I needed. Now I just need to find some kind of cool pin or something to keep it closed.

  • things to do, places to go

    A quick post – I really have lots of things to do to get ready for Le Trip, plus it’s Good TV Night (ahhh, grey’s) so I need to get them done fast!

    I did decide (with some egging on) to make something else for Rhinebeck, a pretty awesome tote bag.

    I cut the pieces Tuesday night and whipped it together Wednesday in under an hour. The outside is barkcloth from Reprodepot, and the inside is some stripey cotton I got from Yahaira! The straps are black canvasy stuff.

    It’s nice and big, modeled after one of my usual bags from Grassroots. Perfect for filling with wool…

    Clothing is packed, but knitting…not so much. Need to go wind some wool and pack enough knitting to last me a week. You know it’s true. Also need to charge camera, gather up shampoo and such, clean out and pack up my backpack…

    See you at Rhinebeck!

  • a forgotten FO

    I finished this sweater sometime last winter; I think I didn’t blog about it because I was thinking of submitting it somewhere. Oh well, time has come and gone, and I pulled it out the other day to wear and snapped some photos.

    Button Raglan
    Pattern: my own
    Yarn: Cascade Pastaza, 50% wool, 50% llama. I think it was…five skeins of the main colour?
    Needles: 5 mm

    It’s a bottom up raglan which grew kind of a lot when I washed it – so it’s a bit big, but super warm. That’s all I really wanted out of it!

    Laying flat photo – after my photo editing software did something weird to it:

    I got the buttons off a leather vest I thrifted for $2 (I used some of the leather to make soles for felted slippers last Christmas, too).

    Now. The handspun Rhinebeck sweater is coming along swimmingly!

    I’ve finished the second sleeve, obviously, and attached everything together for the yoke. Took me awhile to figure out what I was going to do for the colourwork, but I think I have my plan now. Unfortunately…my first schmancy fair isle pattern doesn’t show up very well.

    It’s a star and diamond motif. Ah, well, it looks cool, even if you can’t see the pattern exactly. I’ve just done the first decrease round and am a bit stalled because the next colour yarn is still drying. I’m taking the opportunity to do the bottom ribbing on the body – I don’t have much of the main colour yarn left, so I think I’m going to tip the edging in the dark brown. I almost forgot how fun stranded colourwork is!

    Interweave’s winter preview is up, and it looks pretty good. Bonus big photos, even!

    Oh, and lettuce knit-ers? You know that course I’ve been kvetching about, the evolution one that’s all stats? I’ve dropped it. Yayy!! It means I’ll have to do five courses next term, but they’ll be better ones.
