    farmhouse socks

Finally, an FO around here – it’s been ages! It’s not like I’m not knitting, I’m just not really getting anywhere these days, it seems…

Anyhoo. These are my first pair of Socks that Rock, despite my ownership of several (cough) skeins. Colourway Farmhouse, 64 stitches on Knitpicks US 0 circs, magic loop. Short row heel, wedge toe. Plain ol’ sock.

It was good company on the vacation, nice plain round and round. Didn’t get done until just last week, but whatever. I tried to make the socks long, long enough that I would’ve had to add calf shaping if I’d made them any longer, but I still have tons of yarn left over! Probably 20 grams or more (my scale is currently living at the store).

And, they even match! It’s been my experience when knitting a pair of socks from a hand-dyed, 100 g skein, that the two socks never really come out the same. One will stripe up all nice, the other will do weird pooling or something, despite the same gauge, knitter, and yarn. This skeins seems to have been very well behaved however, and the socks really do match – as much as hand-dyed sock yarn-socks can.

Done a new pair of socks just in time for a heat wave. Yipee!

  • that’s all, folks!

Wha-hoo! I made it! I’ll put up my grad photo soon ; ) My last exam went okay (not super-great, but fine) and I even managed to get an A+ on the last paper that I got back. It’s awhile until convocation (it’s June 20 for me) so there’ll be a wait for the piece of paper and cap-and-gown photo, but still. It’s all done.

And what did I do after? Go to the store, hang out for a bit, then go over to the boyfriend’s and have dinner and catch up on Grey’s. Not that exciting, but nice. And then the fabulous Joyce had a birthday party on Saturday night, which was the realy partying night (partied a little too hard).

Today I woke up late, had lunch (yep), went to check out the soon-to-be-mine allotment garden plot and then for a bike ride. Out for early mother’s day dinner, since my mom will be out of town next weekend. A few hours spinning and catching up on taped shows, and here I am – ready to unleash some backlogged photos of things.

    jitterbug socks

Finally finished – a pair of Jitterbug socks. 60 sts on Knitpicks US 0 circs, top down with a short row heel.

    blurry overhead shot

All the yarn was from the same ball, but no matchy! Oh well. These socks are really comfy and fit great. And I love the colours! So nice and bright. Although the yardage seems really short, it was fine – in fact, I wish I’d made the cuffs longer…

    nineteen

Oddly, the socks themselves weighed 89 g – so I had 108 g of yarn! Maybe I should start a leftover sock yarn blanket soon.

    New socks:

    a very lucky sock

STR in Farmhouse. I started these socks at the Frolic, and then proceeded to leave my go knit pouch and the sock behind when we left! I called the next day, and luckily they’d put it in the lost and found for me. It definitely wasn’t the worst thing I could’ve left, but I was very glad to get it back nonetheless – it’s working up really nicely.

Now? There’s so much crafting (and gardening) to be done! I’ve got a near-FO and a bunch of other random in-progress stuff, but I think it’s time I cast on for something celebratory. Guesses?

  • a frolickin’ good time

Whew. I am totally bagged – and I still have to make an attempt to study tonight! At least for a little while.

The Knitter’s Frolic was awesome. Tons of familiar faces, lots to see and buy, of course! And it was certainly different to be on the vendor’s side of things for once. Both good and bad – mostly good, but the bad part: I was driving to the JCCC last night to help megan set up everything. Now, I don’t usually drive much – I like driving but hate traffic! I don’t think I get along with cars very well.

Long story short, I snapped a drive belt which caused my power steering to fail. The battery light was on. I drive a minivan – the turning without power steering? Not so fun. I was close to the JCCC and managed to park in a nearby parking lot, and after setting up the booth with megan (I had to walk from my broken car to the Centre) I met up with my dad who had the car towed. Yep. This is why I don’t drive cars. I know I was vastly lucky that it happened the way it did.

    Anyway. Yarn.

Full recap on buys (and there were many) tomorrow, but for now:

    Vino sweatercoat

    Vino Cardigan/Sweatercoat
    Pattern: cosmicpluto handmade (aka me)
Yarn: 7 skeins Dream in Color worsted, 250 yards/4oz, In Vino Veritas
    Needles: Denise US 9

Fabulous. Just perfect. I love it! And quite the steal at $20 per skein for squishy handdyed superwash merino. I used 5 buttons from Earthenwood Studios to close it.

    Vino sweatercoat closer

It comes down to my knees, and anyone who tried it on at the Frolic will agree that it’s just super cosy and yummy to wear, but also clean and sleek looking.

Pattern and yarn are available through lettuce knit, by emailing or phoning us at (416)203-9970, 11am-6pm EST. The pattern is $8, and comes in sizes 36″, 40″, and 44″, requiring 7 (7, 8 ) skeins of the Dream in Color yarn.

I will wear this sweater all the time. I’m already thinking about knitting another one!
