  • Happenings

It’s getting harder and harder to keep up blogging these days, even though I still love the format! I know I’m not alone, since my feed reader (I use Feedly) is quieter and quieter over time. I do think there’s more action to be had in sewing blog land – some favourites lately include Crafting a Rainbow and What Katie Sews. (Blast from the past, I remember Katie as a knitting blogger! Hi!)

Anyway, since I can’t really share my knitting at the moment either (I have 3 sweaters due back in the US by June 19!), here are some other things I’ve been up to, mostly from Instagram.

Dale and I went to the Knitter’s Frolic on April 25 and had a great time! I know I haven’t been around much in the local knitting circles, so it was nice to see knitters I know from here and afar. I didn’t buy much, but I did pick up a few new books, a sheepy mug from Sheppard Handmade, and a couple skeins from sweet fiber.

I finally got around to hanging a tea towel as a curtain in the bathroom window. I think it’s quite cheery!

I ordered this awesome sampler from Posie Gets Cozy, I had such a nice time stitching her previous sampler so I’m hoping to get to this one sooner rather than later.

We spent hours and hours on the weekend making macarons and they are super good. I used the recipe from the Bouchon Bakery cookbook, which has some extra steps over most standard macarons recipes I see, making a syrup of regular sugar and water to stream into the egg whites, which stabilizes the meringue and really makes it easier to get good results! We used meringue buttercream for the filling, in vanilla and raspberry. So, so good. Now that I know the process, I can really jump into flavourings!

    Spring’s here – finally!

  • A Little Slow

Skies over Uxbridge on the way back from the farm. #October

I don’t have much to blog about today! I had a bit of a run-in with a box grater last week (grating onion for latkes, worth it) that resulted in a pretty good gash to my right index finger, so I had to take a couple days off knitting. I did manage to get out to take some photos for a couple of new sweater patterns that will be out soon.

Then, I realized the sweater back I showed in my last post was probably going to be too big, so I had to rip it out and start over. Luckily I still really like these cables! The problem with having so many projects in progress is that there’s not much to show even if I were knitting around the clock!

I have posted a couple new skeins of handspun yarn for sale, including this pretty one:

    Bramble

I’m hoping to get lots and lots of knitting time in this week. Maybe start a new shawl.

If you’re in Toronto and haven’t done so already, make sure you get out and vote!

Watching: Defiance – I just finished season 1. It’s not particularly deep, but I like it!

Reading: Starting Mysterium by Robert Charles Wilson. I finished 11/22/63 and it was so good, you should definitely read it if you’re into time travel mysteries.

Eating: Halloween candy (oops) and Chicken Pho. I cheated a bit on the broth and used 1 carton of chicken broth + 2L water to cook 4 chicken legs, instead of the whole chicken, and omitted the 3lb of extra chicken bones/wings. I used the spice amounts from Serious Eats. After we had our dinner, I refrigerated the broth overnight, removed the fat, and now I have a couple containers in the freezer ready for when pho cravings strike!

  • Sunshine Yarn

My Candlewick cardigan is off the needles and blocked, and just needs buttons! This colour is just fabulous, like sunshine in yarn form. It looked a little squat and weird off the needles, but turned out just right after a good bath. Wash your swatches, people!

Some car knitting time was had, and I divided for the body on my top-down brown cardigan. I love the raglan garter rib detail that I stuck in there. Sorry for the odd colour, I’m still experimenting with RAW photo processing.

I finished a new skein of handspun, 2-ply this time. I’ve been loving spinning 3-ply, but the barberpole-ing of 2-ply is just so fun! Also, the yardage is good. This is one of the rovings I bought from Woolgatherings – it’s a blend of oatmeal BFL and silk, so it has a lovely depth and sheen!

With one sweater off the needles and fall in full swing (though you wouldn’t know it from the weather this weekend), of course it’s time to cast on NEW THINGS! This is a sweater in Koigu that will be steeked. Yes, steeked.

    new project!

I forsee some more new projects on the horizon for this week, too. I love knitting sweaters so, so much.

Eating: I made this apple cake last night and it is so good.

Watching: Just started season six of the Sopranos, and can I just say – Oh My!

    Reading: 11/22/63 by Stephen King.
