  • things I did on my Boston vacation

It’s been awhile, hasn’t it? First up, thanks to everyone who bought patterns during my sale last weekend! Ravelry does such a good job of making those things easy, doesn’t it?

And now for some photos from my vacation. I haven’t uploaded the photos from Rhinebeck yet, so this is part 1: Boston and Cambridge (both before and after Rhinebeck weekend!).

danielle!I met up randomly with Danielle at Porter Square – I had my hair cut at a salon there and had a wee bit of time, so we used Twitter to find each other! Super fun.

Ate pizza at Regina in the North End…

    boston-y…and got cannoli too! NOM.

    Mike's Diner

Ate about half a HUGE portion at Mike’s Diner (notice the food theme here? This is what I mainly take photos of, ha.)

Did a bit of Boston exploring and photo-taking with Ysolda.

    david berkeley

Went to a great David Berkeley show at Club Passim in Harvard Square! I hadn’t heard his music before but it was great.

I had a really great time. Re-entry to reality is gonna be hard, but I’m not quite there yet since Ysolda is here in Toronto visiting with me for a bit!

  • end of summer traditions

Here in Toronto, the CNE/Canadian National Exhibition/The Ex is a longtime summer tradition! Both fun and bittersweet since it’s always the last couple weeks before Labour Day, which we all (in Canada/US) know is the unofficial end of summer. After Labour Day it’s time to head back to school back to work for some, the coming of cooler weather.

The Ex is really big, and has all sorts of different things – shows, demonstrations, shopping, food, midway rides and games. A little something for everyone. I’m not one for rides really, so I took advantage of the weeknight ‘$5 after 5pm’ thing to head to the Ex for fried food and picture taking.

Hmmm, it would seem that I didn’t take any photos of food! Ah, well. Fries, pizza, spaghetti, a hot waffle ice cream sandwich and Tiny Tom mini-donuts – the only thing that was missing for my vegetarian companion and I was poutine! Lots of meat-based gravy to be had, but no veggie option. Of course we just fixed that a few days later by checking out the vegetarian poutine at Utopia on College street (and walking several km afterwards to burn it off!). It’s too good, I’m going to have to restrain myself from going there all the time! For those that don’t know, poutine is a Quebecois dish of fries topped with gravy and fresh cheese curds.

    mmmmm poutine

I’ve managed to put some time in on my Ginger sweater, too. Up to the armholes on both the body and the sleeves.

What are you doing to celebrate these early September days?

  • back at the hook

Thanks so much for all the birthday wishes! I had a pretty good birthday, with lots of presents to myself.

New workstation! Still working on getting it set up – restoring from Time Machine is being a bit finicky. Might have to do a computer-to-computer transfer instead.

A free-to-me piano! Needs work, but it really belongs to one of the guys that lives upstairs from me. Just somewhere to keep it until he has somewhere else to put it – in the meanwhile, once the innards come back from the piano repairman, I’ll be playing it all. the. time.

    after!

And this week, I’ve been crocheting. I’d kind of forgotten that crochet really is awesome.
