  • Introducing Edgewood!

Edgewood is my new little pattern collection, featuring three wrap cardigans and a cowl, in yarns from some of my favourite indie dyers!

Koppen is a bottom-up seamless raglan, with a subtle texture stitch and garter stitch accents. The fronts overlap at the waist and can be closed with one button or i-cord ties. The beautiful Johanna from Dirty Water Dyeworks is so bouncy and elastic, comes in enormous skeins (250g/8oz) and is so soft!

Since you’ll probably have a bit of yarn left over from those large skeins, I worked up a quick cowl to match! Koppen Cowl starts with a provisional cast on and interesting perpendicular i-cord and garter stitch edging. The body of the cowl is worked in the round in the same “raindrop stitch” as the cardigan, and the top edge is worked to match the cast on. This one is a super quick knit!

I used Anzula Haiku for Llanos, a top down sweater that’s perfect year round! This one takes a bit of time in fingering weight yarn, but it’s so worth it for such a lightweight, easy to wear sweater. The extra-long body is knit flat, with a bit of flattering waist shaping on the back, and a fun and easy lace ripple pattern at the bottom edge. Row by row directions for the lace edging are included. I’ve worked elbow-length sleeves (which I also love worn over a long sleeved tee shirt!) but also included are directions for full length sleeves.

Finally, Norrland is the most complex sweater of the bunch, and I’m very proud of it! This awesome worsted weight yarn from Zen Yarn Garden is a really lovely deep dark green (colourway: Romi’s Garden) and has great stitch definition, perfect for all those cables! The extra-wide fronts overlap and close at the cowl neck with a single button. Norrland is worked in pieces from the bottom up, and sewn together. All cables are provided in chart form only.

Big thanks to Dale for taking these beautiful photos! We took them at Edgewood Camp near Guelph, ON, at a friend’s awesome post-wedding celebration. The autumn colours are so gorgeous and so fleeting – now all the leaves have blown off the trees!

Westley is a low-key but still polished cardigan featuring a deep V-neck and gradually flared ribbing. It’s worked in Harrisville’s flyWHEEL, which is a really lovely plied wool with lots of body and awesome heathery colours. Knit seamlessly from the top down.

The Cobbled Wrap & Scarf from Solitude Wool uses 2 colours of their awesome small-batch Coopworth Sport, one solid and one multi. The easy garter stitch and lace pattern is worked lengthwise, and naturally biases to create a fun parallelogram shape.

  • works in progress

I’m waiting on a rather large amount of yarn destined for deadline projects (for NEXT fall!) but since it’s not here yet, I’ve had a chance to pick up a sweater project that’s been languishing on the needles for ages!

    anzulaedging

The yarn is Anzula Haiku, a fingering weight blend of 70% merino, 20% bamboo and 10% nylon. I’m not quite sure if they’ve changed the put-up since I got it at TNNA several years ago – the website says 400 yds/skein but my labels say 500!

    anzulasleeve

The colourway is “Madam”, a delightfully dusky pink, and the sweater design is my own – a top-down, fingering weight wrap cardigan with a ripple lace edging and i-cord ties. I hope to release the pattern this fall!

    icord

I have a limited amount of yarn, so when I finished the body I decided to go ahead and do the front bands and the ties before starting the sleeves. I divided the remaining yarn into two equal balls (with the help of a scale) and now I can just knit the sleeves until I run out of yarn – I don’t think they’ll be full length, but that’s totally okay with me. It’s a lighter sweater after all.

I also finished up my Just Enough Ruffles Light for the knitalong! Do check out the thread, there are lots of beautiful in-progress and finished projects.

    jerlight-gradient

The yarn is Mountain Colors Perspectives, a gradient set in their Twizzle base. Because the stitch count for JERL changes so drastically, the last couple colours are quite narrow along the ruffle. I’m into it!

    jerlight-preblocking

I did add a few extra rows to the ruffle, and I cut it perilously short – I had perhaps a foot of yarn left over after binding off. The finished piece desperately needs a good blocking, and I’m going to share a blocking tutorial on Friday along with a blocking prize pack!
