  • the sweet smell of freedom..

So I’m done school for the time being – until the 16th, when I start summer session four days a week. Ouch. In the meantime – finish the licorice cardi, or Phildar jacket, both only hours away from completion? Nah.

I’m SO not in the mood for finishing work. The solution? A knit in the round tank, out of All Season’s Cotton, which shall be a fast knit with minimal finishing. Love it.

Oh, and I made another skirt!

Sorry for the lack of a modelled pic, but I’m not in the get-dressed-for-blog-pics mood. It’s the same pattern as last time (Butterick 3134, with modifications), but this time it was much, much faster to make, because it’s fresh in my mind what I need to be doing with it.

Since there’s so little knitting content, let’s take a look at the 100% cotton batik fabric, shall we?

One more thing…I know people are trying to subscribe on Bloglines, and my feed *still* isn’t beign recognized. Little help? Dani, could you maybe send me your rss2.php file so I can take a look and see if mine’s at all different?

  • rippin’

Last night at SnB I ripped out two tank tops from last summer – the “Goddess”tank (ie. the criss-cross tank) from Vogue, and the “Jenna” tank from Berroco (too lazy to find the link).

The yarn doesn’t look to be too kinked up, probably because they’re both slippy mercerized cotton. So the question now is, of course, what to do with this yarn? I didn’t get around to ripping out syncopated ribs, because I actually wanted to knit…but since I’m just working away on Cozy and Soleil, there isn’t much of that to show.

Instead: the yarn of Insane Craziness.

This stuff is BRIGHT and I love it! I’m working on filling another “bobbin” (er…TP roll) and then I’ll ply ’em together. This wool (“colonial wool”) is super soft and really easy to spin – just a little bit o’ predrafting and I’m good to go. It’s been spinning up really fast, too, but maybe that’s just because I’m crazy for the colours.

Oh, and I got the first package from the Cotton-Ease Binge.

Unfortunately the colour’s all washed out in this pic (sunlight’s a double-edged sword) – it’s a very nice buttercup yellow. I shall be making a tiny-fitting cardi with buttons, sized according to a cardi from *ahem* Old Navy.

I think I need some chocolate. I’ll be sure to pick some up on the way home from my FINAL EXAM OF SECOND YEAR tonight! And then there shall be much crafting to celebrate!

  • ever have one of those days..

..where things just won’t go your way? Wreck your dinner, can’t focus on studying…

oh, and the knitting doesn’t agree with you either? Yeah, those days.

    The Evidence: Item 1.

Do you see what I see? The fronts (to the markers) have a different number of stitches from each other. And this was at the end of one very. long. yoke. Just to make sure (since we all know that the camera sees all) I took a picture of the whole thing – after I bound off the neck. I’ll figure out the collar later.

    Looks ok…I think.

    Item 2.

My beloved Cotton-ease, in Cherry Red. I swatched for the Rebecca “Apricot Cardigan”, and did get gauge on 5.5 mm needles. BUT, I have determined that the colour is just too damn bright for me. So does anyone want this Cotton-ease? I’ve got 6 balls less that little swatch – $3 each, what do you say?

Luckily, after midnight things started looking up. I worked a bit on Cozy – I was feeling frustrated and downright depressed, and this helped. Mmm, wool and silk…I’m still not yet a third of the way done.

I started spinning up the wool I received yesterday. I wasn’t too keen on the colours in the roving, but this is GORGEOUS.

Now I’m all excited about doing my own dyeing – I love the vibrant colours of this roving, and I know I won’t really get that with Koolaid, but I’m not feeling into spending the money and effort on acid dyes. Plus, once I’m done with the POUND of white corridale I’ve got to dye, I can also buy dyed roving to spin.

P.S. I kind of just forgot to write the “yarn” part of “piles of projects and yarn” – I was thinking about how much Cotton-ease I’ve got coming my way, and got kind of woozy. 8 balls of Licorice, 6 of Blueberry, 5 of Banana Cream, and at least 8 of Strawberry cream. So, you know, I really need to vacate the space taken up by that Cherry Red.
