  • rien

I got nothing. Nothing interesting, anyway – I bound off Charlotte yesterday but haven’t blocked her yet; I’m half a sleeve away from a new sweater (although I still have to figure out what to do with the neckline). Trekking sock hasn’t seen much time. I knit three titbits.

Oh, I do have some spinning stuff – I don’t usually show in-progess yarns, do I? Well here are a few…

A blurry shot of the merino I’m working on, the colour of pea soup. It’s nice to return to the straight up, one colour (or at least one roving) wool after the neapolitan yarn and the high-tech plant fibres.

I have been playing with the soy silk a bit more, though – I’ve been handcarding some merino and soy silk together, roughly 50/50. Here’s a bunch spun up.

I think it’s time to start a new project. I want to do a sweater-jacket type thing, using Elann Highland Chunky, but I can’t find a pattern I like, or even just an example of one. Will have to think about it some more.

  • things a’growin’

On it goes with the vneck and Charlotte. All the photos I took of the sweater sucked, but I’m now finished the body and am on the first sleeve. It’s kind of a schlumpy looking sweater, but I did want a plain, sweatshirt-y thing. So it works.

    Charlotte, she grows.

She’s gettin’ pretty big, too. Yarn is starting to run out finally (I’ve knit a huge Cozy AND this Charlotte out of a cone!).

I’ve been preparing for teaching a class on lace tomorrow morning, so I’ve been knitting swatches and writing scarf patterns and a handout. I’m going to work on Charlotte during the class and finish it up this week, then block it and bring it next week to show the magic of blocking.

I was looking for yarn to swatch with for the class, and started reorganizing and neatening up the stash a bit as well. I was re-winding some balls of yarn, including this Regia mini-ringel:

I just really liked that photo, I think it’s awesome how the yarn wound up like that.

Tune in soon for more exciting adventures.

P.S. The sock is knit with Trekking 100 – just love those colours!

  • perhaps

So when I found myself this week without a tote-around (read: lecture) project, I quickly cast on for a plain stockinette sock.

I think it’s coooooool. And knits up fast, even on 2 mm, because I just want to keep seeing the colours change!

I spun up a skein of 100% soy silk, about 95 yards of 2-ply.

It was rather odd to work with; the fibre falls apart really easily and sends up a lot of fluff. Damn sticky, too. It also seems to become overspun very quickly, when it actually isn’t. I found the easiest way to work with it was to use short lengths, and split the roving into pencil-width strips.

Not much else going on today – I’m making swatches and writing scarf patterns for a beginner lace class I’m teaching on Sunday morning. And working on my Charlotte.
