  • cable-licious

Not all that much going on here – that university education takes up a lot of time, dangit!

I’m about 8.5″ up the back of Katy – I’m lengthening the body for sure, as I don’t think 12.25″ is long enough to the underarm shaping! I’m contemplating making the armhole longer too, but that involves looking at the cap shaping on the sleeves…well, I’ll think about it. It’s working up really nicely in the Cotton Fleece – I don’t know if I’d want something bulkier for this. And everything but the cabling row is pretty mindless, and therefore quick!

I finished the first Irving Park sock already – yeah, I know, that was fast even for me! I’m really getting into the subway knitting thing, as I used to just sleep on that 30 minute ride. Although…this morning I tried to knit but decided to rest me eyes instead. At any rate, knitting on the subway is occurring.

I did what I thought was a pretty long cuff on the first sock, and it turned out a nice length considering the maximum stretch of the cast-on, but I’ve got tons of yarn left over.

See the start of the second sock there? That’s still the first ball of yarn! For my next Lorna’s Laces pair (in the “Vera” colourway), I’m going to do knee socks, top down. I’ll see how much mileage I get out of the rest of the first skein on these ones and extrapolate from there. Oh, and I think I’ll go down to 60 stitches for the next sock; although these are great, they could be snugger.

I’ve started the second sleeve of Cloud finally, and I hope to have the entire thing done this weekend!

The Zinnia socks are finally done, and they are just soooo warm and soft and cozy. They fit perfectly, too.

    Zinnia socks
Pattern: basic sock, 2×2 ribbed cuff and instep
Yarn: Knitpicks Sock Garden in “Zinnia”, one and a bit skeins (I wonder if I have enough for footies out of the rest of the second skein…)
    Needles: Clover US0 dpns
    Re-started: August 28, 2005
    Finished: September 19, 2005

Yeah, they took awhile for such little socks. But they were lecture/subway/whatever knitting, with little priority. I did finally finish them because I wanted the needles (I think I need some more US0 needles, damn loose knitting) for these:

These are socks in Lorna’s Laces Sock, in “Irving Park”, and they are perrrrfect. And superfast to boot – I did all of this today, on the subway, between classes (I had 4 hours of gaps) and ummm, IN classes. I kind of wanted to try a yarn-over short row heel, but I went with the wrapped one instead. Plus, I tried them on when I got home and they fit most excellently – I did the ribbing on size 1 needles, then switched to zeros for the leg, and the leg is exactly the right length to hit my leg in the right place for the size of the ribbing, if that makes any sense!

Sorry, I’m just rather excited for this sock. It’s actually going to be difficult to not finish it tonight at home – I want to keep it for on the road, since it’s simple stockinette. At least I’ve got Katy (and lots of reading) to keep my company!

  • that lovin’ feeling

I wanted to post this last night, but the internets weren’t cooperating, so here goes…

I conquered the v-neck of Cloud once again, and am more halfway done a sleeve.

I love the feel of the Shine, and I think this will turn out well, but I’m just not feeling the love anymore. It’s really quite unwieldy with the magic loop for the sleeves – if I could just do it on a circular, it’d probably be done by now. Ah, well.

I was putting up my due dates on my wall calendar (love that thing) and I realized that after Thanksgiving (Canadian, obviously – October 10) I have a test every week for the following six weeks. And there are labs and at least one major assignment in there too. So what did I do in response to this scary, scary news?

    Cast on for Katy!

I’m using Brown Sheep Cotton Fleece, in off-lot Cavern (yeah, same as the, uh, Cavern sweater). I thought I would need to do a bigger size to make it come out with a smaller gauge, but once I cast on and knit two rows I realized that I really didn’t need to do that. Yay cables!
