First off the top, my OSW modifications by popular demand –

    – I changed the gauge from 16 sts/4″ to 20 sts/4″ (row gauge was the same as the pattern)
    – I think I probably did a few more increase rows than given
    – sleeves: I joined the sleeve stitches into a round where you’re supposed to do the seed stitch border – obviously I didn’t do that. I placed a marker under the arm and decreased 1 stitch on either side, every 6th row, until I liked the size – I think that was 9 times.
    – I did 2×2 rib on the cuffs.
    That’s about it for that!

In yarn news…yes, I’m still on a diet. BUT, as a yarn diet to me is more about saving money than rejecting more yarn, I can’t possibly reject yarn that I don’t actually output money for…

So. Blue Sky Alpacas cotton, in a rusty red, enough for a pullover.

I really wasn’t totally, completely sold on the colour, but I can still think about it. I might switch it for the blue –

No, I’m not insane. The blue is for a sample sweater I’m knitting for lettuce knit, the Snap Cardigan by Blue Sky.

I also got a wee bit o’ lorna’s laces, in “Irving Park”.

And, well, as for the Jacke en Blueberry, I got through 2 repeats of the chart when I realized that I’d cast on for the wrong size – I was planning to do the larger size at a smaller gauge, but I cast on for the smaller size at a small gauge! Very small! So I had to rip it all out and start again.

This was Tuesday night, after I ripped. I’m almost back up to where I was. Here’s hoping for some forward progress!

I finally wrote my last exam of the summer yesterday, and now I’ve got a whole three weeks off before the fall term starts! Yippee! Although, I did decide to finally get off my ass about driving, so the week of the 29th I’ll be in 5-day intensive driving school….but at least it’s not regular school!

And since you asked so nicely lynette…

I wore OSW for a short period yesterday to take this photo, and to make dinner. I found that…I didn’t like wearing it. Armpit wedgie, and all that. It may have just been that particular shirt, though – I’ll give it another go sometime.

In the meanwhile, I whipped up one (just one) handwarmer for my little sister’s birthday, out of leftover Shine. It’s cute! And since it only took about an hour, I can afford to wait a few days before doing the other one. I think she wants a scarf, too – maybe I should just get it all done so I don’t have to worry about it anymore.

    I spun this up:

I’m calling it “haze”, but I’m too lazy to figure out the yardage. Something like 200 yards, probably. I’ve got another 4 oz of this colourway, but…I don’t think I like it much. Maybe I’ll overdye it; I haven’t done any dyeing in a long while!

Annnndddd…..presenting the beginning of the Rebecca Jacke….en blueberry. Yep, I just went completely elsewhere with the colour. This was what I wanted to do the sweater originally (months ago) but I thought maybe I should do it in something brighter. But jae was right – fall is coming, after all.

I’m aware the ribbing kind of looks like crap. But, this is cotton-ease that was already knit into Syncopated Ribs (from IK fall 2004) and then frogged. Washing will help. Just a few more cm’s and I’ll be ready to start the back yarnover pattern!

    Modelled pic? Maybe another day.

    One Skein Wonder, with sleeves
Pattern: by Glampyre, modified by me
Yarn: Knitpicks Shine, “Orchid”, 3 skeins
    Needles: Denise US7
    Started: July 28, 2005
    Finished: August 14, 2005

So it took longer than I thought, but it was actually very quick knitting. The Shine is gorgeous, I love it! This should be just the thing for over-air-conditioned lecture rooms. Not that I’ll be in lecture for the next few weeks…I finally get a vacation after tonight’s exam! Woohoo!

Anyway, I finally finished up some spinning as well.

“Spruce”, 206 yards. It’s so lovely and soft! I wish I’d bought some more of this wool blend when I had the chance. Currently spinning up some blue/purple of the same wool; hopefully I’ll start a shawl like Adrian’s.

I also finished knitting Elspeth, although after this picture was taken I ripped back a bit on one of the fronts to fix it…as you can see, I didn’t do partial motifs, which resulted in some..funky spaces.

Now I just need to sew it up by Wednesday so Denny can do my crochet (right Denny?).
