Sideways Spencer
Pattern: by Annie Modesitt, Interweave Knits Fall 2004
Yarn: Brown Sheep Cotton Fleece, “Olivette”, 5 skeins
Needles: Denise US 7 (4.5 mm)
Started: May 27, 2005
Finished: July 19, 2005 (that took a while!)
Notes:
I love the way this turned out! The stitch patterns are fabulous and the chart was easy to memorize. Modifications: added length by adding a pattern repeat, 4×2 ribbing on the sleeves and bottom of the body, more ribbing to add length. As you can see, I changed my mind about the buttons from the last post and went and bought new ones today. The sweater took so long because I put it down for a long time – but the knitting was fast and easy! Now I just need some cooler weather…
Onto stash enhancement. Yesterday I went to the sale at Romni, with the intention of getting this:
Madil Eden, 100% bamboo, in a mocha colour. This bamboo is soft, silky and shiny.
I also just couldn’t resist.
Four skeins of Coffee Bean Calmer. Oy. And I went and picked up some Lorna’s from the store, too. Two skeins of “peach” for the waving lace socks from last spring’s interweave.
I also got the Addi for the Sapphire tank, and another 2.5 mm circ to replace the one I broke. It was an expensive day.
It looks great! I love all the purchases too :)
Looks great Laura! How much was the calmer at romni?
okay, knitting, spinning, blah blah blah. how come you’re not telling everyone about that great new zine you contributed to? and how photos of you are on more pages than anyone else?!?
great, great job! it looks perfect on you.
Gorgeous! Spencer is one of my many wanna-make projects, but alas, I have to finish other things as well. Anyways, great FO!
Spencer looks gorgeous. Way to go!
The sweater came out super fabulous. Wow, I’m so impressed! Were I more of a cardigan kind of girl, I’d be all over it. Come to think of it, that could be easily a pullover. Will investigate. Stash additions – lovely, especially the Lorna’s all the way at the bottom :).
You should let Annie know about the cardi (www.modeknit.com), she’s a very sweet woman and I think you made her pattern proud :).
Your Spencer looks great. I will have to keep this sweater in mind along with your modifications.
Spencer looks great!!!
looks wonderful!
wow, it’s really beautiful!
Along the spirit of Jae’s very valid reminder to you to acknowledge your knitting friends in “the real world”–how come you haven’t mentioned as a “stash addition” the oversized 1920s-1930s mother of pearl button someone brought back for you all the way from London’s Jubilee Market?
I’m really impressed by your knitting handiwork. I love the Spencer jacket. I first saw it in Interweave, but it didn’t do much for me. After I saw Bonne Marie’s version, really loved it. Now you’re making me really want to make it. Thanks for including your modifications, v. helpful.
Oh and the stash enhancement, wonderful!
[…] Spencer in the Fall 2004 Interweave, and thought “hrmmm”. I remembered that Laura had knit one, and that BonneMarie had too. So I googled the project, and while no other bloggers cam […]
I was just googling to see if anyone else in the world has made this as well and was so excited to find yours. It looks great!
