a wednesday problem

Work work work. The problem with freelance-type work is, it’s really hard to separate out work time and play time! It’s easy to just keep working and working. Well, for me, anyway. Mostly because I feel guilty if I have time to work and am not doing it. Does that make any sense?

Thanks to everyone who helped me destash – I had so many packages to take to the post office that when the woman there saw me, she took out a whole mailbag for my packages! A few more are going out today.

So. How about some knitting talk? I finally finished the sleeves of the Manos silk cardigan –

manos sleeves

I did them both at the same time – which was kind of a drag when I was actually doing it, because it seemed so slow! But then I got up to the cap and then, behold! Not one but two sleeves! It was pretty exciting to finish them both together.

Now I just have to do the button bands and collar. I think the sweater’s going to take a little more yarn then I’d hoped, eight skeins rather than seven. Ah, well. I can make the collar nice and long.

Now here’s my Wednesday problem – I don’t know what to take to Knit Night tonight! The Manos cardigan is sort of at a tricksy point to take to a place where much talking and probably drinking will take place. Maybe it’s time to bust out some plain sock knitting? But what I really want to do is cast on for another sweater! What sweater, what yarn? Do I have the supplies? Do I have the brain power to start something new?

This is often my dilemma.

I do think I’ve solved what to take, though – the Manos sweater (the button bands won’t be too hard to figure out) and maybe needles and yarn for new socks. I could really use some new plain socks. Yeah, that sounds okay.

(Although I do still really want to cast on for a new sweater.)

Back to my lunch!

lunch, take II

Chickpea salad: chickpeas, cucumber, tomato, chunks of haloumi cheese, lots of parsley, good olive oil, lemon, and a sprinkle of cumin. Pita wedges are obligatory for soaking up the dressing!

I often have that same problem with bus knitting. The very simple tee I was working on is getting too big to fit in my purse! So I have to find a small, simple portable project–which is usually a scarf or socks. But right now I want to knit springy/summery things! Maybe a string bag would be just the ticket!

yum, your lunch looks delicious! i try to have only one project OTN at any given time, so i don’t have too many choices when going to knitting meetups.

I’m having the same problem as I cram the back piece of vino into my project bag. I say go for socks.

Though I don’t feel like knitting socks and want to have a portable project again. I’m thinking a lace scarf (and easy one).

    The cardi looks great.

That’s yet another reason that the shrug I’m working on is in the irritating stage. Too big or too complicated to want to take with me.

I like the idea of a simple lace scarf, one that can showcase the yarn rather than the pattern.

    The sleeves look fabulous too!

Your lunch looks delicious! Halloumi is just so ridiculously good. I love it cooked on a hot griddle until it has delicious blackened stripes. I also love it in salads like yours… on crackers…. as a midnight snack straight from the fridge… you get the idea :)

Know what you mean about the feeling guilty for not working. I’m a med student and the same thing definitely applies there. There’s always more you *could* be doing. But on that note, I think I’m off to watch Desperate Housewives…! Just don’t tell my future patients…

Lovely job on the sleeves, and what a great idea to do them at the same time! Can’t wait to see your sweater when it’s completed!

Yea!!! on the sleeves. I am working on my first cardi and I am thinking of doing the sleeves at the same time to save my sanity!

And….YUM!!I think I know what I am having for lunch tomorrow. The past few recipes have had me worried for my keyboard from the drool I have been dropping on it..LOL!

And as a freelance photographer I understand about the work vs free time. Altho I do work much better in a crunch!

I am currently making a sweater for my sister. I never thought about making two sleeves at once. This just might be a must! I love the Manos yarn. Right now I have a skein of the Manos Wool to make a cowl. I have been eying the silk for a sweater for myself. I am just dreading it due to I am a slow knitting in comparison to the rest of the knitters out there. Well we will see how it goes! Good luck with the freelance!

My problem with freelancing is as soon as I am ready to walk out the door to go wherever I have a client that needs something asap. For instance today the kids and dogs were all dressed and ready for the dog park and excited and lo and behold sorry everyone we have to wait just a few minutes while mommy does this :( On the other hand freelancing is very free as far as time goes. most of the time ;)

Your blog is one of my absolute favorites. I love the knitting, and am really enjoying all the cooking stuff too.

One question: What pattern are you using for the Manos Silk Cardigan? One of your own?

Yum! Your lunch looks good when will you be serving dinner? What time should we all be there? haha :) The Manos looks great, can’t wait to see it finished! You’ve got real talent, woman!
